Job Description ABOUT SMASH AND OUR PHILOSOPHY SMASH was
launched on the University of California, Berkeley campus in 2004
by Freada Kapor Klein in response to the lack of diversity in tech,
coupled with the fabled lack of STEM interest and abilities within
communities of color. SMASH is a free, multi-year STEM-intensive
program that takes a long-term and holistic approach to developing
low-income, first generation college students who will not only
thrive in STEM careers but use their skills to effectuate change in
their communities. Its mission is to build a strong, diverse and
socially conscious workforce by leveling the playing field through
academic learning. To date, SMASH has provided over 50,000 hours of
education and its scholars have a 100% high school graduation rate.

The Senior Director, Institutional Development serves as a key
member of the development team, responsible for growing our
foundation and corporate giving program. The position requires a
dedicated staff member to help manage donor relationships,
including developing and implementing strategic plans to identify,
cultivate, solicit, and steward a broad base of corporate and
foundation donors. The Senior Director, Institutional Giving
reports to the Chief Development Officer. The broad
responsibilities and duties of the Senior Director, Institutional
Giving include but are not limited to the following: Developing
cultivation and solicitation strategies for new and previously
identified corporate and foundation prospects to support programs
and operations Ensuring that stewardship and reporting requirements
are met to sustain successful partnerships Developing highly
competitive proposals and compelling presentations Managing the
engagement of SMASHs CEO and board of directors with corporate and
foundations donors and prospects, coordinating outreach and
follow-up Coordinating corporate volunteer programs designed to
expand engagement with corporations and creating a volunteer pool
to support SMASH programs Supporting donor cultivation events
Generating new leads through multiple channels including research
and networking. Tracking progressing against annual and multi-year
goals and milestones Assisting with the development of budgets and
monitoring expenses related to corporate and foundation
fundraising. Working in partnership with members of the Accounting
team to complete monthly reconciliations of all gifts and revenue
projections Other duties as assigned Requirements REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree required; advanced degree preferred Minimum 5
years or more years of professional experience with a proven track
record of generating significant commitments from corporations and
foundations. Strong preference will be given to candidates with
individual giving experience and proven ability to meet or exceed
fundraising goals of $1M or more annually Strong oral and written
communications skills, including the ability to write compelling
proposals, reports and other donor related materials Knowledge of
cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and
techniques, particularly in the area of corporate and foundation
fundraising Ability to initiate and build relationships with
prospective corporate and foundation donors Superior interpersonal
and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals
Outstanding time management and organizational skills, with careful
attention to detail Demonstrated ability to perform well
independently with grace under pressure in a multi-tasking
environment Exceptional customer service orientation: anticipate
and respond promptly and professionally to requests and needs from
all key stakeholders, setting clear expectations while taking other
perspectives into account Demonstrates initiative proactively by
creating and/or following through on new ideas and strategies
Displays sound judgment and ability to exercise discretion when
dealing with confidential information regarding SMASHs business and
sensitive donor information; high degree of self-motivation,
personal discipline and integrity Possesses collaborative work
style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based
environment Working knowledge of DonorPerfect and prospect research
