Job Description: The Business Administration department at Mills College is pleased to announce an opportunity for an instructor to teach a 3-credit course in Negotiations during the Fall 2021 semester. Our business degree programs are distinguished by their focus on equity and justice, by the rich diversity of backgrounds and experiences our students bring, and by our small size which fosters a sense of community among students, faculty, and staff. The person in this position would teach: MGMT 127/227 Negotiations. This 3-credit course is an elective course for undergraduate and graduate students. This course is scheduled for Monday afternoons from 4:00 -6:30 pm. The fall semester begins on August 25 and final exams end on December 15. The course is expected to be delivered in-person or in a hybrid format. Remote learning options such as streaming in-person classes will be made available for students who need them. Course Description: The course examines the dynamics that occur before, during, and after negotiations and the theory behind various negotiation approaches. Topics to be addressed will include: claiming versus creating value (also known as distributive and integrative bargaining); preparation strategies; the nature of power; psychological aspects of negotiation; experience and expertise; multi-party/group negotiations; culture and gender; communications and perception; mediation and other alternative dispute resolution systems; working with lawyers; and organizational change and salary negotiations. Compensation: This is a three credit course. For faculty new to Mills, compensation is $6,000 per one three credit course without a terminal degree and $6,500 per course with a terminal degree. Adjunct compensation is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement and increases with seniority at Mills College. Requirements: Minimum qualifications are a Master's degree in Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A terminal degree (Juris or Doctorate) and higher education teaching experience are highly preferred. Additional Information: This is an exempt, part-time position. The compensation includes state-mandated benefits including Social Security, State Disability Insurance, Workers' Compensation Insurance, Unemployment Insurance and Sick Day accrual.
