Departmental Overview
The Division of Undergraduate Education (UE) engages the campus on
vital academic initiatives that enrich the UC Berkeley
undergraduate experience. The division offers programs and services
that support the diverse Berkeley community of students, faculty,
and staff in teaching, learning, and discovery. Under the
leadership of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, UE
formulates and implements both campus strategy around undergraduate
education and the student experience, and directs the operational
work of academic support units; American Cultures Center, the
Athletic Study Center, Berkeley Changemaker, Berkeley Connect,
Berkeley Discovery, the Biology Scholars Program, Research,
Teaching and Learning, and the Student Learning Center.The Advising
Strategy + Training (AS&T) initiative, housed in the VPUE's
immediate office in partnership with the Center for Teaching and
Learning (CTL), engages the advising and student services community
in development, learning, and leadership. Berkeley's advising and
student service professionals, in turn, support students throughout
their academic, personal, and professional journey.

Responsibilities
This career position reports to the Assistant Vice Provost and
Chief of Staff in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate
Education. Goals and priorities for this position are developed
together with the AVP-COS and in consultation with the Vice Provost
for Undergraduate Education, the Council on Advising & Student
Support Executive Committee, and the Center for Teaching and
Learning. To support cross-campus connections related to advising,
the role also works closely with the Graduate Division and the
Division of Equity and Inclusion. The incumbent will shape aspects
of this position to respond to the advising community's needs and
priorities.This position is focused on improving the experience of
all students through the strategic development of cross campus
advising strategies for the academic and co-curricular advising and
student services job family. The incumbent oversees the
development, management, and revision of professional development
programming, currently including the AS+T Presents and the
Equity-Oriented Advising and Coaching Program, to foster
campus-wide a strengths-based, equity-oriented advising approach
that supports student engagement, success, and belonging. The
position also plays an important role in engaging with
advising-related policy developments, informing the roll-out of new
campus initiatives that intersect with advising and student
services. The Manager of Advising Policy and Strategy works closely
with the Council on Advising and Student Services (CASS) and its
Executive Committee. Using campus-wide and self-initiated
assessment instruments, the incumbent uses data to track trends,
inform recommendations and make enhancements to training and
professional development activities to positively impact the
student experience.Strategy, Stakeholder Engagement & New
InitiativesParticipate with high level management in strategic
thinking and planning in the domain of advising policy and
practice. Develop proposals and recommendations to guide and
support a broader strategic direction for advising and its role
across campus priorities and units. Propose, lead and/or
participate on policy and planning committees and working
groups.
