Solutions is focused on making next-generation sequencing (NGS)
simple, scalable, and accessible through highly integrated,
end-to-end solutions. Our Systems Technology Group is responsible
for developing cutting-edge technologies that enhance DNA
sequencing workflows. We are seeking a Principal Mechanical
Engineer to lead the mechanical design and development of
next-generation sequencing instrumentation. Role Summary This is a
hands-on, senior-level engineering role for a multidisciplinary
expert focused on solving complex mechanical challenges within
advanced sequencing systems. The role involves concepting,
designing, building, testing, and integrating electro-mechanical,
pneumatic, thermal, and fluidic systems to ensure performance,
reliability, and scalability. Core Responsibilities Lead end-to-end
mechanical design and development of electro-mechanical, pneumatic,
fluidic, and thermal sub-systems Collaborate with cross-functional
teams (electrical, consumables, materials) to define and manage
critical technical interfaces Design mechanisms for automated
reagent and flow cell loading, clamping, and sealing with high
reliability Architect and implement thermal control systems,
including heating/cooling elements, sensors, condensation control,
and heat management Partner with simulation experts to guide and
validate CFD, thermal, and optical models using empirical data
Serve as the technical owner for assigned sub-systems during
integration, verification, and troubleshooting Lead
cross-functional design reviews and resolve technical trade-offs
Manage technical execution, timelines, and deliverables for
assigned sub-systems Create and maintain design documentation
including CAD models, drawings, and specifications Contribute to
system-level technical strategy and architecture decisions Present
technical progress, data, and design trade-offs to stakeholders
Required Qualifications Education & Experience: PhD with 5 years of
industry experience OR Masters degree with 10 years of industry
experience OR Bachelors degree with 10 years of industry experience
(Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related field) Proven
hands-on expertise designing and testing complex mechanical,
electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems (life
sciences/diagnostics preferred) Strong experience in thermal
management and precision temperature control systems Experience
designing fluidics systems (pumps, valves, tubing, sensors,
materials) Proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and
manufacturing drawings Experience with machining, injection
molding, and additive manufacturing Strong troubleshooting skills
across hardware, software, and chemistry interfaces Proficiency
with machine shop tools, test equipment, and rapid prototyping
technologies Experience using Python, LabVIEW, or similar tools for
device control and data acquisition Preferred Qualifications
Experience leading technical projects and mentoring junior
engineers Proficiency with simulation tools (CFD, FEA) Experience
developing NGS or genomics instrumentation Background in regulated
product development environments Strong communication skills with
both technical and non-technical stakeholders Excellent
organizational and multitasking skills in fast-paced environments
