Position SummaryKIPP Bay Area is seeking a strategic and dynamic Associate Director of Operations and School Support (ADOSS), who will oversee the operations of 8-12 schools in San Francisco, Oakland, San Lorenzo, San Jose, East Palo Alto or Redwood City. Through observation, feedback, and coaching of Directors of School Operations, the ADOSS drives school-based operations teams to continuously improve and deliver high-quality operations - ensuring instructional leadership is able to focus on teaching, learning, and development. Additionally, the ADOSS partners closely with stakeholders across the organization, fostering collaboration between the regional office and schools.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, excellent people, and project manager and have a successful track record of improving processes and systems in school operations. The Associate Director reports directly to the Regional Director of Operations.
Preferred Qualifications

    • Deep integrity and commitment to KIPP Bay Area Public Schools' mission and values required
    • 4+ years of professional experience in a fast-paced, high-capacity work environment - including 2+ years in a school-based operations role - required
      • 2+ years of professional experience as a manager with responsibility for managing 2+ direct reports required; experience managing other managers strongly preferred
        • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of work experience or 6+ years' work experience required

          • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite required
          • Proficiency in one or more of the languages spoken by the communities we serve (Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese) preferred
          • Previous experience or familiarity with school-level data management systems (PowerSchool, CALPADS, SchoolMint, School Messenger) preferred
          • Valid driver's license and/or access to dependable transportation, as regular travel between geographies, is required. This role also requires evening and/or weekend work at times
            Essential Functions and Responsibilities
            Oversee School Operations and Compliance
            • Oversee the operations team in 8-12 schools in San Francisco, Oakland, San Lorenzo, San Jose, East Palo Alto or Redwood City; manage all schools in the portfolio to achieve key operational outcomes and realize strong operational health.
            • Serve as a subject matter expert in various school-level functions and support Director of School Operations (DSOs) in areas of responsibility including food service, transportation, student health, student recruitment and enrollment, attendance and data reporting, risk management, safety and compliance, finance and purchasing, facilities, technology, and human resources.
            • Conduct internal operational reviews of school-based systems and procedures to recognize areas of strength, identify areas for improvement and identify, codify and share best practices in school operations.
            • Facilitate effective communication and feedback between schools and regional teams
              Lead School Ops Talent Sourcing, Onboarding, Management and Support
              • In partnership with the Talent team, manage regional recruitment, hiring and selection process for school-based operations roles (ex. build the candidate pool of qualified internal leaders at every level, lead regional selection processes)
              • Lead high-quality training and on-boarding for new DSOs and school-based operations team members as well as support schools in off-boarding transition planning
              • Provide observation, feedback and coaching of DSOs to drive school-based operations teams to continuously improve and deliver high-quality operations; support progress monitoring of key operational outcomes and goals for the school operations community
              • Design and facilitate both monthly cohort-based professional development and differentiated training for DSOs (ex. lead development sessions, coach facilitators to plan and deliver high-quality training and workshops) and partner with data lead on the Regional Operations to support training for school-based data managers. - - -
              • Manage all regional Ops communication systems, tools, and supports, including our Ops newsletter, operations calendar, intranet, and team drives -
              • Assist Regional Operations team in planning seasonal events and initiatives (e.g., leadership retreat, summer retreat, school operations appreciation events)
                Provide project and program management and reporting
                • Lead and/or co-lead projects supporting specific school sites (ex. supporting new school openings, moving from temporary to a permanent facility, planning for shared campus district co-locations, improving student enrollment and/or attendance)
                • Perform data analysis to help KIPP Bay Area make sound operational decisions, including maintaining KIPP's Operational Health dashboard
                • Support Regional Director of Operations on programs and other initiatives as necessary or assigned
                  Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands
                  Physical: -
                  Ability to navigate both office and school environments, and hold meetings in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of materials 1-20 lbs. Ability to see and hear, either unassisted or through the use of adaptive technology. -
                  Mental: - -The stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people.
                  Environmental:Office environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Occasional classroom/school environment and travel required.
