humility. Position Summary The Director of Leadership Development
(DLD) drives the school leadership pipeline development for KIPP
Northern California. In partnership with the KIPP Northern
California's Academics and Talent teams, the DLD will own the
design, management, and execution of the Principal in Residence
program, ensuring we are developing a robust pipeline of leaders
prepared with the skills and competencies to lead high-performing
schools. About the KIPP Northern California Principal in Residence
Program: The Principal in Residence (PIR) program is a two-year
residency that prepares rising leaders to open a new KIPP school or
become a successor leader at an existing KIPP Northern California
school. The program combines on-the-job learning, professional
development, and mentorship and coaching opportunities to prepare
participants to create and lead excellent schools. This position
reports to our Chief Schools Officer and is based out of our
Regional Support Office (RSO in downtown Oakland) with frequent
travel to lead and support our schools and local communities
throughout the Bay Area and Stockton. This position is available
with an immediate start date. Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
- Demonstrated excellence in school leadership, including
instructional coaching, leading professional development, and
developing other leaders
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading through change, executing
on major initiatives, and leading cross-departmental work
- Successful experience in coaching leaders and
creating/designing adult learning and teaching of the content and
skills associated with people leadership, including operating with
an equity lens
- Successful experience in leading adult learning through
professional development trainings
- Ability to analyze and use data on a regular basis to drive
decision making
- The ability to unpack the various aspects of one's identity and
implicit biases to recognize how these impact leadership
actions
- Must live in Bay Area, CA or a surrounding community, or be
willing to relocate Education:
- Bachelor's Degree (required);Master's Degree (preferred)

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Program Vision:
- Owns program design, to include setting and monitoring progress
towards program goals, creation of key program deliverables (leader
standards and performance benchmarking tools, formal professional
development calendar, etc)
- Manages project team and key program stakeholders through
organizing meetings, designing and executing a communication
strategy
- In collaboration with regional talent team, supports selection
process for PIRs
- Coaching and Developing of PIRs:
- Supports the development of the PIR as an instructional
leader:
- Holds the PIR accountable to progression on the Development
Roadmap of skills aligned to School Leader readiness. -
- Provides direct coaching to the PIR to include bi-weekly
check-ins and bi-weekly observations of the PIR in practice
- Provides the vision for PIR formal professional development;
may lead some professional development content
- Evaluates the PIR against performance benchmarks to make
ultimate decision on school leader readiness
- Develops and sends monthly PIR round-ups to drive
accountability, action and sharing of best practices
- Manages the PIR promotion process
- Designs and leads monthly check-in meetings
- Designs and leads quarterly evaluation meetings
- Recommender on the promotion of PIRs to school leader
- Continuous Development of emerging leaders in the region
- Responsible for creating and facilitating delivery of content
during School Leader and Assistant Principal Community of Practice
(CoP & AP CoP) Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands Physical:
- Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings
in different spaces. Traditionally, much of the day involves
sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional
lifting/carrying of equipment 1-20 lbs. Mental: Stress of deadlines
and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate
alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods
of time, reading, analyze and use data on a regular basis to drive
decision making. Environmental: - Office and/or classroom
environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions.
Multiple days a week you will be expected to travel to school sites
to be in classrooms/ observing the school environment. In an
emergency context (e.g., pandemic), work may be conducted virtually
fully or partially for extended periods of time or longer, and the
expectation is that the individual will establish a productive,
remote work environment (e.g., ability to stay connected through
different technology means). It may require remote work as current
public health guidelines warrant. Classification This is a
full-time, exempt position that follows the regional support office
