About Us: GreenBiz.org is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization
working to nurture and empower BIPOC professionals to accelerate a
just transition to a clean economy. We are seeking to cultivate a
vibrant ecosystem of individuals, organizations, and communities
working symbiotically to transform our field culturally and
dismantle environmental injustice.
About the Role: GreenBiz.org is seeking its first Executive
Director, responsible for leading the organization's
administration, programs, fundraising and strategic plan. Reporting
to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will lead
programs and operations at GreenBiz.org, providing vision,
leadership, and management to ensure that the organization executes
its mission and vision. This position requires a dynamic,
mission-driven leader who is equipped for sound organizational
management as well as developing and managing high-impact justice,
equity, diversity and inclusion programs internally in practices
and policies and externally in programmatic offerings.
Position Details: This is a full-time position, starting
immediately ideally in Oakland, CA but remote candidates would be
considered. This opportunity offers a competitive salary and
benefits package. Some national travel required.
Responsibilities:
- Management of all administrative aspects of GreenBiz.org
including P&L management, leadership and/or development of
staff and consultants, preparation of all reports required by the
Board and funders, preparation of quarterly agendas/financials.
- In partnership with the Board ensure the financial solvency of
the organization, including developing long- and short-range
financial plans, monitoring the budget and establishing sound
financial controls, and partnering with the Director of Development
to develop and implement fundraising strategies (maintaining
ongoing relationships with existing and prospective funders while
seeking additional relevant partnerships).
- Management of all programmatic aspects of GreenBiz.org,
ensuring ongoing excellence and impact across the Workforce
Development, Community Building, Creative Storytelling, Impact
Funding/Placemaking and Coalition Building program areas.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure
effective systems for tracking progress and evaluating program
success, so that measurable results can be effectively communicated
to the Board, funders, and other stakeholders.
- Support the building and development of a Board of Directors
that is highly-engaged and representative of the GreenBiz.org
community; cultivate a transparent and effective working
relationship with the Board of Directors, ensuring open
communication and partnership around annual strategic planning and
the measurement of financial and programmatic performance against
identified milestones and goals.
- Recruit, hire, and develop a diverse, high impact team,
including conducting annual reviews and setting annual goals with
direct reports; cultivate and iterate organizational culture and
values in support of a healthy and productive continuous learning
environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in an environmental, social
impact, or business field.
- Approximately 5 years of prior experience providing
executive-level, visionary leadership in a related position in a
corporate, NGO/nonprofit, philanthropic, governmental, or
consultancy environment.
- Deep knowledge and/or understanding of environmental and social
justice issues challenging frontline communities and the corporate
sector with insight into cultivating industry and community-wide
change. Cognizant of local, state, and federal issues, actions, and
policies that might affect the GreenBiz.org community. Commitment
to advancing environmental equity and justice with thoughtfulness
across our organizational programs.
- Proven experience working with and leading a nonprofit Board of
Directors, cultivating strong relationships and maintaining
transparent communication.
- Proven experience executing organization growth strategy within
a similar or larger size nonprofit and/or related entity across
diverse organizational functions including Programs, Operations,
Finance, and Human Resources.
- Entrepreneurial and innovative spirit in high-impact program
development, backed by data-driven performance evaluation.
- Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability
to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong research, writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
strong sense of personal integrity and demonstrated capability to
instill credibility, confidence, and trust amongst diverse internal
and external stakeholders.
- Experience and success in recruiting, retaining, and motivating
high impact, mission-driven, and results-oriented teams. Ability to
cultivate a dynamic and fluid work environment with a small,
virtual team.
