Overview: Alameda Health System is hiring The Infection Prevention
and Control Manager plans, implement, manages, and evaluates a
comprehensive infection control program under the direction of the
System Director of Infection Prevention and Control. Is responsible
for the infection prevention and control program at their
respective facilities. Develops and implements facility-wide
infection prevention and control measures to protect patients,
staff, and visitors, and to help prevent the development and
transmission of communicable diseases and infections. Monitors
Patient care for compliance with established standards and
investigates known or suspected sources of infections to determine
the source and ensure control. Develops and provides related
education to staff. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising
from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: The following are the
duties performed by employees in this classification. However,
employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.
Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual
in the classification. Under the direction of the system Director
of Infection Prevention and Control. Assists in implementing the
policies and procedures of the Infection Control program; Employee
Health in counseling/consultant requirements for employees
regarding TB, Blood-Body Fluid and other IC exposure incidents,
protocols and/or issues. Coordinates the Infection Prevention and
Control Committee and other hospital committees in developing and
implementing appropriate management of problems which may
contribute to the transmission of infections and the control of
communicable diseases. Actively participates in Quality Assurance,
Quality Improvement, and Regulatory assessments under the direction
of the System Director of Infection Prevention and Control
Evaluates potential for patient care improvements and initiates
improvements for supplemental IC practices, procedures, and
products. Manages all aspects and maintains awareness of sentinel
microbiology lab reports from the hospital, county and/or other
outside labs and follows up as needed. Manages all aspects of the
Infection Prevention and Control surveillance, including reviewing,
classifying, and investigating pertinent information of patients
regarding IC surveillance outcomes and communicates assessment
results; makes determinations between healthcare associated and
community acquired infection status of patients. Manages and
coordinates reporting and/or follow-up regarding communicable
diseases to the Alameda County California Emerging Infection
Program, State Health Department, CDC, and the National Healthcare
Safety Network (NHSN). Manages and facilitates efficient access and
movement of patients across levels of care, and acts as a
consultant for inter-facility transfers of patients to appropriate
levels of care; as needed, consults and/or provides education
regarding the Infection Control section of Mandatory Annual
Training and the orientation program, as well as coaching of
employees who are out of compliance with health care policy and
notification deadlines; participates in patient teaching as needed.
Manages and maintains data and records for the purposes of
determining negative trends, problem identification/resolution and
reporting responsibilities; reports on a quarterly basis to the
Hospital Performance Improvement Committee (PIC) with hospital-wide
data regarding various outcomes within the Infection Control
Program. Manages, collaboratively consults, reviews and revises, as
necessary the IC program's policies, and procedures, including
department specific. Manages, directs, coordinates, instructs, and
acts as a consultant to all hospital departments within the
multiple facets of the Infection Control program; participates with
all departments in the surveillance, prevention, and control
activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Performs standard
supervisory functions, including, recruitment, hiring, on-boarding,
training, coaching, mentoring, task assignment, performance
evaluation, progressive discipline, conflict resolution and
allocating staff resources. Researches and communicates current
standards, trends and information with the IC milieu to
Administration, Department Leaders, Medical Staff and general staff
as needed. Any combination of education and experience that would
likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well
as possession of any required licenses or certifications is
qualifying. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred Experience: Three
years managerial/supervisory experience. Required Education:
Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health or Laboratory Science
with a concentration in Microbiology, or related healthcare field
Required Experience: Five years' experience in Infection Control in
an acute-care setting. Required Licenses/Certifications: Registered
Nurse, Clinical Laboratory Scientist; Certification in Infection
Control by the Certification Board of Infection Control (CIC).
