Your Role The Corporate Financial Accounting & Reporting team is responsible for the financial accounting and reporting for Blue Shield of California and its subsidiaries . The Specialty Accounting Manager will report to the Specialty Accounting Senior Manager . In this role, you will manage a team of Senior Accountants and be responsible for the compilation of consolidated financial statements and regulatory reporting packages . Your Work In this role, you will:

  • Serve as subject matter expert -on financial reporting, financial reporting control systems, -GAAP/regulatory accounting where the responsibilities encompass 50% or more of positions responsibilities -
  • Be responsible for performing evaluations of internal financial reporting systems, and/ or GAAP/statutory accounting -
  • Lead the assessment of the accounting impact on the Company's financial position and results of operations from both a current and prospective basis relating to proposed and emerging accounting statements, standards, and reporting guidelines -
  • Coordinate the monthly recording of investment accounting entries and the financial statement consolidation process, which includes the elimination of intercompany transactions
  • Develop accounting policies, procedures, and controls relating to newly enacted accounting standards and serve as project lead for implementation -purposes, including all project management and communication to ensure timely adoption of accounting standards -
  • Coordinate the compilation of quarterly regulatory reporting packages, including securing data/information from other departments, assessing consistency with reporting instructions, and reviewing for completeness and accuracy of filings
  • Lead the compilation of the audited consolidated financial statements and interface with external auditors
  • Assist with the preparation of the various deliverables for executive, board, Audit Committee reporting, and other ad-hoc requests
  • Lead and support a team of senior accountants to complete the above activities in a timely and efficient manner Your Knowledge and Experience
    -
    • Requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or equivalent
    • CPA designation or an advanced degree preferred
    • Requires at least 7 years of accounting or public accounting experience, including 2 years of management experience gained as a team leader, supervisor, or program/project manager
    • Requires comprehensive and current understanding of US GAAP
    • Exposure to statutory accounting principles preferred
    • Possesses outstanding collaboration and oral/written communication skills
    • Ability to prioritize work to meet internal and external deadlines
    • Oracle ERP experience preferred

        • Physical Requirements: Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment.
