Asia, and East Africa. About the Role We are seeking an
experienced, creative and analytical professional to oversee and
build on the success of the CalTestBed program. The CalTestBed
Senior Program Manager will grow and oversee the CalTestBed program
in collaboration with the California Energy Commission, the
University of California Office of the President and participating
laboratories. This is an exciting opportunity to help drive
innovation and social equity into California's energy transition.

shortest time possible for every Californian. The CalTestBed
program funds the de-risking of innovations for clean energy
entrepreneurs across California and is expected to grant awards to
laboratories performing this work on behalf of an additional 70 to
90 entrepreneurs by 2027. Each entrepreneur is creating a positive
impact in the world - from increasing access to clean energy
technology, reducing electricity costs to creating jobs and
increasing the safety and reliability of our electric grid. The
Senior Program Manager will represent the CalTestBed Program in the
California's existing vibrant Energy Innovation Ecosystem, in
alignment with California's ambitious equitable climate mitigation
policy road map. The Senior Program Manager will work closely with
NEX California's matrixed team to evaluate, strengthen, grow, and
evolve the CalTestBed Program while developing the tools and
network access that will increase the likelihood of commercial
success of our entrepreneurs. The Senior Program Manager will work
within a matrixed environment, will report to the Managing
Director, and will be accountable for an $11M program budget and a
team of 2 staff. The ideal candidate finds joy in bringing clarity
to complexity, excels at helping others do their best work, and
understands the multiple social and economic benefits of clean
energy and the potential for social equity outcomes that can result
from scaling new clean energy technology. If you are an experienced

Oakland, CA, with a hybrid-remote work option and offers
competitive nonprofit salary and benefits. Relocation assistance is
not available. Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of solicitation strategy, program outreach,
planning and execution delivering a high-impact program.
- In partnership with the Director of Grants Management &
Compliance, manage relationships with the California Energy
Commission, program partners and advisory groups ensuring parties
are actively engaged in co-creating programming and "vested" in
- Manage relationships and communications with the University of
California Office of the President (UCOP) and CalTestBed's
participating laboratories at UC campuses.
- Oversee the development of tools, resources and network access
that will increase the likelihood of commercial success of our
- Manage high-level program execution ensuring the team is well
coordinated and deliverables are on time and within budget.
- Oversee the negotiation of contractual scopes-of-work and
milestones between laboratories and the voucher recipients.
- In consultation with fellow CA Program leadership, guide the
program teams in setting objectives and accountabilities, providing
ongoing coaching and completing performance appraisals.
- Review and approve program expenses, ensure program reporting
and invoicing is completed in a timely manner, and that all
financials are in order for auditing purposes.
- Represent the organization and programs at public
- Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 10 years of work
experience; Advanced degree preferred.
- At least 5 years in a program management or similar capacity
directing the design and execution of complex initiatives.
- Experience with program development and management, leading
decision-making processes, and aligning opportunities to program
- Demonstrated political savvy and experience navigating and
influencing complex organizations.
- Proven ability to establish strong working relationships, use
influence skills and collaborate to achieve program results both
internally and externally. Experience working with the CPUC, CEC,
national laboratories and academic institutions a plus.
- Experience directing government funding, complex agreement
packages, and managing compliance with flow down terms.
- At least 5 years' experience managing direct reports and
achieving results in a matrixed environment.
- Deep understanding of the clean energy sector; affinity for
energy technology and a thirst to understand new developments in
