About the OpportunityThis job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. Job Summary:Under the direction of the Director of Planning and Facilities at Mills and the Executive Director of Northeastern's Climate Justice and Sustainability Hub, this position manages sustainability programs at Mills College at Northeastern. The Sustainability Manager is responsible for collaborating with various departments across the Mills campus and Northeastern University's global network, as well as external partners, to develop and implement innovative sustainable practices, standards, infrastructure, and systems that support the progress of strengthening the institutional commitment to sustainability. The position manages data collection and evaluation programs that help measure the campus' progress towards meeting its climate and sustainability goals. The position supports a culture of inclusivity by creating many different entry points to engage in sustainability education. This position is based in Oakland but works closely with Northeastern's Climate Justice and Sustainability Hub in Boston to leverage the talent from students, faculty, and staff, and global partnerships to expand Northeastern's leadership role and implement just solutions to address the climate crisis. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of common practices and standards related to sustainability including climate justice, climate resilience, water efficiency, ecology, zero waste, energy systems and building efficiency, and other strategies that work towards the elimination of fossil fuels.
  • Proven track record of working with diverse stakeholders and an ability to form partnerships and collaborations.
  • Experience planning, directing, and supervising the work of others effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently and as a team leader.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement a variety of ways to collect, analyze, and track data.
  • Ability to learn about and evaluate current systems and make recommendations.
  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in an area of study related to one or all aspects of sustainability
