Management Coordinator, Nursing in Oakland, CA at Integrated Resources, Inc Job DescriptionDuties:
Reporting to the assigned Cluster Director or the Department Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations for assigned unit. This position works with other leadership staff to develop the annual capital and operating budget, supervise/manage staff and implement programs that reflect current needs and anticipated changes/expansion of services for the hospital/ organization.
1. Customer Service
a. Utilizes innovative approaches to improve service delivery.

2. Budget Management
a. Collaborates with Manager/Director in the development of units annual capital and operating budget that reflects current needs and anticipated changes.
b. Administers unit staffing within HPPD, adjusted for volume.
c. Demonstrates awareness and fiscal responsibility in managing non-wage resources.
d. Evaluates units wage FTE and overtime on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
e. Develops, implements and modifies action plans to correct all negative variances on a daily and weekly basis. Assists Manager/Director with implementation of corrective action plans.
f. Provides productivity and budget performance data as requested.
3. Personnel Management
a. Communicates regularly with staff to provide information, allow staff to voice concerns, and to exchange ideas for improvement in work. Maintains documentation of at least monthly communication. Conducts monthly staff meetings for shift staff and keeps minutes.
b. Clarifies roles and expectations of staff using generic performance standards based on job description to rate performance and evaluate effectiveness. Delegates responsibility and authority appropriately.
c. Completes all performance appraisals during the months in which they are due.
d. Ensures that shift staff has skill and abilities to demonstrate competent performance and progressive growth. Maintains current competency grids for all unit staff with at least 80% of staff meeting essential unit competencies.
e. Identifies staff learning needs and develops individualized improvement plans.
f. Develops and implements a written plan to assesses and accommodate staff learning needs and ensures that resources are available to staff on shift.
g. Plans and delivers a formal educational program at least once a year.
h. Prepares, monitors and adjusts for weekly schedule within specified time frames in order to meet patient care needs.
j. Ensures that the need for disciplinary action is identified appropriately and completed within timeframes, using appropriate resources consistent with hospital policy and department practice.
4. Quality Management
a. Participates in the preparation and implementation of the unit Quality Improvement (QI) plan to address all regulatory requirements and important aspects of patient care outcomes.
b. Reviews quarterly QI reports and implements strategies to ensure that improvement in patient care occurs.
c. Maintains records of systems problems/ issues with corrective actions demonstrating positive outcomes and interdepartmental collaboration.
d. Ensures that shift employees meet licensing board, state health, JCAHO and OSHA regulations and that all violations are corrected.
e. Investigates accidental injury reports to identify potential unsafe working conditions and/or practices and ensures implementation of corrective action.

Education:
BSN required; Masters Degree in health administration, management, or related field preferred. Current California RN license.

Languages:
English( Speak, Read, Write )

Skills:
3 5 years previous related department experience.
Basic proficiency with computer systems (word processing and spreadsheets).
CQI team experience.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Effective verbal and written skills.
In good physical condition to meet the demands of an active position, including extensive walking, moderate sitting, standing, stooping and lifting.
Must have good hand dexterity.
Capable of maintaining safe practice in handling needles.
1 year leadership experience (i.e. charge nurse).
