Job Description:

The Development Manager will be iMentor Bay Area's researcher and institutional grant writer, driving relationship mapping, and drafting proposals in support of our frontline development staff. Reporting to the Associate Director of Development, iMentor Bay Area, the Development Manager (DM) is an integral member of the growing regional Development Team, ensuring that the department has the research, portfolio management, administrative support, and information systems in place to operate with maximum efficiency, meet an annual fundraising goal of up to $600k, and support continued program growth.

The Development Manager will play a key role in the execution of iMentor's fundraising and donor cultivation and stewardship strategies in the Bay Area. In this role, they will specifically support the Associate Director of Development in stewarding relationships with iMentor's institutional partners and prospects. In particular, the DM will help manage iMentor Bay Area's growing portfolio corporate and foundation partners, identify new relationships for iMentor in the philanthropic landscape, and help diversify our institutional and individual funding pipeline with the goal of increasing new money sources. Additionally, the Development Manager role offers the opportunity to lead and shape best development operations practices, identify and conduct training, and support database management for Bay Area Development Team.

The ideal candidate is one who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and systems-focused, is a strong researcher, writer and cross-functional project manager, and has foundational experience with maximizing development operations.

Institutional Funder/Grants Management (70%)

  • Work closely with AD of Development to create grant templates, report on, and renew existing grants. Write exceptional grant proposals and reports, internal briefing documents and memos, donor presentations, and other communications materials, that effectively and succinctly capture iMentor's work and impact.
  • Manage internal grants calendar and schedule to ensure proposals, deliverables and reports are submitted on time
  • Build relationships with key departments within iMentor - e.g., program, finance, and research and evaluation - to aggregate data and information that will help inform and tailor grant requests and funder reports
  • Support cultivation and upgrade strategies, grants management, and relationship stewardship strategy for iMentor Bay Area's portfolio of institutional funders
  • Execute on a stewardship calendar strategy throughout the year for both new and current institutional funders
  • Lead administrative, systems and project support to plan, coordinate and execute events and site visits to convene donors

    Prospect Research & Relationship Mapping (15%)
    • Research institutional and individual prospects for fit and recommend/drive next steps for stewardship and solicitations to strengthen iMentor's revenue pipeline and new sources of support
    • Create systems of productivity and efficiency to equip Bay Area Dev team with the necessary research, information, outreach materials, and other tools to generate revenue from high-potential prospects
    • Manage relationship mapping tracking system across iMentor's networks, including mentors, current supporters, foundations, corporations, and other networks, to grow iMentor Bay Area revenue

      Development Operations Support (15%)
      • Gift Processing and Acknowledgements: Work collaboratively with departments to manage the full gift acknowledgment process for all iMentor Bay Area gifts, ensuring that the process serves as an engaging and meaningful touchpoint for donors by drafting acknowledgement letters and materials, in addition to sending cultivation and stewardship gifts to our donor community.
      • Liaise with members of the Finance Team to process gifts on a daily basis, ensure minimal turnaround time for acknowledgement, and maintain accurate records of gifts for reporting and auditing purposes
      • Enhance prospecting and engagement of donors by ensuring moves management practices, (including donor communication, funder histories, activities, and profiles, and Salesforce contact and supporter lists) are accurate and updated regularly
      • Collaborate with Bay Area AD of Development, Managing Director of Development, and National Communications team to plan and execute regional external communications initiatives, including a Bay Area communications calendar, conference recommendations, social media posts, press releases, etc.
      • Support with special events logistics as needed

        QUALIFICATIONS
        • 3+ years' experience in relevant field with demonstrated success in grant and proposal writing, development, member/constituent services, or development operations, experience in the nonprofit sector a must
        • Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate clear, persuasive, and concise thoughts
        • Salesforce experience required
        • Strong contributor within team environments and a driver of organizational culture; leverages input of stakeholders in order to move work forward
        • Detail-oriented and design/presentation-focused
        • Understanding of fundraising landscape and fluency with effective donor communications practices
        • Proven track record of successful internal and external relationship management with ability to propel connections toward mutually beneficial outcomes
        • Displays exceptional project management skills while balancing multiple, complex projects in a highly deadline-driven environment
        • Flexible and adaptive to effectively manage changing priorities and new opportunities
        • Takes a solutions-based, collaborative approach to drive change in work and navigate challenges
        • Quick learner who demonstrates an eagerness to continually strengthen their understanding of iMentor's work and seeks to hone written communication skills

        • Bachelor's degree required

          Compensation & Benefits
          • Salary $65,000 - $70,000 commensurate with experience
