OPRYD is a 110-year-old organization that operates a 2,500-acre park system of 140 parks representing 10% of the City's land area, 36 recreation facilities, and an array of youth enrichment and educational programming. The FY 2022-23 operating budget is approximately $53 million, including departmental funding (323 FTEs). -The next OPRYD will bring a combination of visionary leadership and organizational management as evidenced by the OPRYD's record of accomplishment in comparable roles with a commitment to quality service delivery, performance excellence, individual and organizational accountability, a collaborative approach to managing a complex department with multiple partners and stakeholders that will add value to the City's parks, recreation and youth development system while preserving and enhancing the quality of life for its residents and visitors in Oakland.In addition to having the appropriate background and experience to lead an organization that values community engagement and embraces the City's values of race, equity, social justice, integrity, and transparency, the Director will possess outstanding people and management skills, including building and maintaining an effective team and developing, mentoring, delegating, motivating, and holding people accountable.
