Settlement is a core function that ensures the accuracy and timeliness of our payment platform, on which millions of transactions are processed every week. This candidate will have the opportunity to lead the Settlement team to build scalable processes, implement new tools, and expand support to internal and external customers globally. This position is responsible for overseeing the settlement reconciliation process on daily, weekly, and monthly basis. The goal is to verify that daily funds flow activities performed by the card networks (e.g., Visa, MasterCard, Discover), partner banks, and customers are recorded appropriately, as well as manage reporting related to revenues and expenses. S/he will be responsible for identifying and resolving issues while maintaining ongoing relationships with key constituents on both the bank and network sides, as well as customers. Furthermore, as the business grows globally, the Settlement Director will lead various initiatives to scale the settlement function through automation and process optimization. Primary Responsibilities Work with cross functional teams to design, plan, and execute long-term settlement solutions as the company expands globally and into multiple verticals Lead and grow a best in class settlement organization that is the source of truth and insights, and easy to work with. Deep expertise in the card payment business with a comprehensive understanding of its economics and connections to daily settlement activities including timely identify and solve instances that cause imbalances Optimize current settlement processes to reduce risks of delays and errors Overseeing new customer on-boarding and existing customer de-commission processes. Ability to partner across organizations including: (i) work with internal teams (e.g., Customer Success, Operations, Product, and Technology) to research and correct issues identified during reconciliation; (ii) partner with internal system and data analytics teams to develop reconciliation reports and tools to continuously improve settlement efficiency; and (iii) support the finance team in both revenue recognition and transaction expense management processes Support new product initiatives by designing and executing testing prior to production deployment. Requirements The ideal candidate should possess a background in accounting, treasury or other finance related functions, have demonstrated success in solving both financial and operational problems and a track record for drive results. We are looking for candidates who has a keen sense of ownership, experience in leading and managing teams, ability to thrive in a fast changing environment, and a high curiosity to learn about Marqeta's business and products. Requirements: 10 years' experience in finance/accounting related functions Payments or other financial services industry background with a thorough understanding of settlement workflows and key risks controls Proven leadership in identifying, attracting, and developing talent. Experience in leading and managing teams Adept at a fast growth "start-up" environment with the ability to work cross functionally Ability to design settlement systems and processes for scale Strong problem solving skills, analytical rigor and an orientation toward data-driven management and decision making Ability to initiate and lead projects independently, collaborate with internal and external teams to make decisions Proficient in financial systems and tools, strong Excel skills a must.
