The Compensation Manager is an integral part of the People team and responsible for evolving, managing and supporting all facets of our rewards programs. As a Compensation Manager, you will work closely with the People and Finance teams as well as key functional leaders to develop and maintain compensation programs that enable Marqeta to attract, retain, and motivate our team. You will help lead the strategy, design, communication, , implementation, and administration of our compensation programs that range from job leveling/matching, submitting salary surveys, merit process planning, analytics and compliance. You will use your strong analytical and data-driven mindset to ensure accuracy, competitiveness and insights for our overall rewards strategy. This position is also responsible for supporting various aspects of our HRIS, people analytics, organizational dashboards and other high-impact efforts as we scale. Our Compensation Manager will be charting the path for the future of the Compensation function in this unique opportunity to design scalable processes and workflows that optimize Marqeta's compensation strategy for efficiency and growth Primary Responsibilities Perform analyses evaluating Marqeta's pay practices in the context of our market and industry, establishing competitive program design and providing insights around building best-in-class compensation strategies. Conduct research and detailed analytics/modeling; interpret data and internal equity to assess and determine the company's competitive position and formulate optimal business-oriented pay recommendations. Continuously assess compensation levels utilizing knowledge of prevailing rates, internal equity, types of wage incentive systems, and special compensation programs for professional, technical, sales, operational, managerial, support and executive roles. Administer compensation programs and initiatives, including annual merit review and focal planning, variable/bonus pay cycles, sales compensation, off-cycle promotions, etc. Partner closely with Finance to support Equity administration. Generate reports and conduct ad-hoc analyses with highly responsive timelines. Audit jobs for content and prepares sound job descriptions. Reviews requests for new or revised job classifications to determine appropriate salary grade assignment. Conduct audits to ensure compliance with local and national labor laws and company policies. Design, develop and document internal processes that deliver quality compensation programs while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Lead all efforts in compensation survey participation; collect and analyze competitive information to determine company's competitive position, find innovative new sources for comp data and practices, and remain current on trends. Provide guidance to the entire leadership team with regard to compensation practices, trends and policies. Reviews existing and proposed statutory requirements governing compensation administration and recommends appropriate action plans. May prepare special studies and recommendations on topics like incentive comp, bonuses, sales compensation or stock options. Help lead and support international expansion comp strategies and processes. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements relating to minimum wage and overtime pay, and consistency with administrative policies and practices. Regularly audit FLSA status of existing positions. Perform periodic review and update of job descriptions to incorporate developments in industry standards, compensation and alignment with operational requirements. Perform other duties and contribute to special projects as needed. Who we're looking for 3-5 years of relevant practitioner experience managing compensation and reward programs in a hi-tech company Exceptional analytical, mathematical, computation and data visualization skills Confident presence and ability to interact with and present to the leadership team Deep knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; must have advanced Excel skills (e.g., if/then statements, VLOOKUP's, pivot tables, formulas); Macros knowledge helpful Knowledge of new market data sources Undergraduate degree in business, accounting, human resources, or related field Sales incentive compensation experience preferred Certified Compensation Professional-- (CCP--) preferred International expansion experience a plus Demonstrated ability to act with discretion, confidentiality and good judgment Self-starter with strong ability to manage their own time and competing priorities Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing Strong interpersonal skills that both engender trust and respect and enable candid conversations. Genuine comfort with and enthusiasm for the fast-paced, start-up environment and associated ambiguity at times.
