We are currently recruiting for an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant), to join our Critical Care Pulmonary team. Summary: Under general direction, assesses, evaluates, and manages the health care needs of patients in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care in primarily the outpatient, ICU, and bronchoscopic settings. Performs selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks. Provides health care services and performs clinical examinations that require possession of advanced knowledge and skills and the exercise of a high degree of clinical judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with lung disease and critical care needs. Performs related duties as required. Duties & Essential Job Functions: NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification. + Assess patients in outpatient clinic under MD Supervision and assist with clinic patient backlog. + Consults with physicians as necessary regarding health status of patients; refers complex cases to appropriate resources. + May participate in annual performance reviews as needed. + Orders laboratory and screening tests in accordance with approved protocol or as clinically indicated. + Performs history and complete physician examinations of patients within the context of the outpatient clinic and bronchoscopy services; assesses the clinical status of patients; establishes and maintains electronic health records. + Plans programs of care, seeking consultation with physicians, other professional staff, patients, and families as needed or as required. Formulates problem lists based on clinical findings. + Provides and evaluates patients care according to protocol and quality assurance program criteria. + Teaches patients, families, and staff; provides counseling services related to promoting good health practices. + Responds to clinic patient phone calls, e-messages, and triages as appropriate. + Refills prescriptions for clinic patients as appropriate. Assist with difficult to access medications, supplies, and diagnostic tests. Assist with referrals to UCSF, Stanford, UC San Diego, and California Pacific Medical Center for consultations in outpatient setting and the inpatient setting as it pertains to bronchoscopy or specialty care needs. + Assists with tracking, scheduling, and management of paperwork of patients in pulmonary hypertension, lung cancer screening, and lung nodule clinics. + Assist with bronchoscopy processes on both inpatient and outpatient side. + Be available to assist in the intensive care unit to provide additional patient care, team support and consultation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS *Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Minimum Experience: Demonstrated experience which would provide the knowledge and skill necessary for successful performance as a Mid-Level Practitioner. + One year in area of specialty (i.e. Cardiology, Neurology, G.I, Rheumatology, Orthopedics, Hematology, etc.), PG Residency of ED experience or post-graduate training in area of responsibility. Required Education: Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner training program that conforms to the Board of Registered Nursing standards; OR successful completion of a Physician Assistant program of instruction in primary health care approved by the Physician Assisting Examining Committee; OR NCCPA for Physician's Assistant.; graduate of an accredited Nursing program required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Required Licenses/Certifications: + Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; OR possession of a valid Certificate as a Physician Assistant issued by the California Board of MedicalQuality Assurance. + For Nurse Practitioners, possession of a current Furnishing Number issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing AND Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) OR American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP); OR Certification by the National Certification Corporation as a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHNP). + For Physician Assistants, a valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Number AND Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Other Qualifications Experience: Clinical experience which would provide the knowledge and skill necessary for successful performance in the outpatient clinic setting and procedural setting for bronchoscopy and the inpatient intensive care unit. One year of ambulatory medicine (preferably in pulmonary medicine), post-graduate training in pulmonary diseases preferred. Preferred Licenses/Certification: BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association.
