The Opportunity Mathematica seeks a visionary, passionate leader to be the Area Director for Business Development and Client Partnerships for our work with U.S. health foundations. The Area Director leads Mathematica's health foundation strategy, business development, and client relationships and helps oversee and advise on our project work in this area. The Area Director also collaborates with other leaders in our Health unit and across the company to support and expand Mathematica's offerings related to health services research, public health, behavioral health, and health equity. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to Mathematica's mission and a demonstrated ability to drive the area strategy and continue growing a diverse portfolio of work with U.S. health foundations. This portfolio includes health services research; learning and evaluation services of all types; program/portfolio strategy and design; technical assistance; data analytics; and surveys and other data collection services. We center equitable outcomes and processes in our engagements to advance our clients' equity journeys and our own; the Area Director will inspire and help equip colleagues, clients, and other partners to maintain and further this commitment. Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy development and execution for our work with U.S. health foundations
  • Lead business development planning and proposals for U.S. health foundations
  • Lead strategic projects with U.S. health foundations
  • Oversee quality assurance plans for all U.S. health foundation projects and proposals
  • Advance Mathematica's position as a leader in the use of data and evidence for improving programs and policies of interest to U.S. health foundations
  • Grow and diversify our work with U.S. health foundations
  • Engage with foundation staff to understand client needs and perspectives on health services, public health, behavioral health, and health equity
  • Engage with foundation staff to understand their perceptions of Mathematica and how we can best address their needs
  • Support the development and adoption of new approaches that improve our ability to meet existing and emerging client needs
  • Develop annual plans around staffing and external partnerships to pursue opportunities with U.S. health foundations
  • Participate in monthly reviews of our project portfolio
  • Advise project and proposal teams
  • Respond to client questions or concerns about our work
  • Coordinate with area directors in Mathematica's human services and international units
  • Provide thought leadership and public commentary around issues critical to health philanthropy and health equity
  • Maintain a professional reputation as a substantive expert in health philanthropy or an area of programming such as health care services, public health, behavioral health, and/or health equity Position Requirements:
    Qualifications
    • Project leadership experience with foundation clients demonstrating commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture and client-centered approaches
      • Experience in setting strategic goals and reviewing budgets
      • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills with experience successfully managing proposals and projects using a collaborative, team-building approach
      • Clear communicator and careful listener who effectively engages and inspires clients and colleagues
      • Extensive professional network of staff and leaders at U.S. health foundations or ability to leverage Mathematica's existing networks
      • Experience working in the program or research and evaluation capacities at a U.S. health foundation is preferred
      • Extensive experience with business development and successful contributions to growing a pipeline of work
      • A master's or doctorate degree in social science, public policy, public health, or relevant discipline or a combination of equivalent education and work experience

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of $140,000 - $180,000. This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance. -We offer flexibility to work remotely or in an office.
