Healthcare About the Role: The Pediatric School RN plays a critical
role in promoting the health, safety, and well-being of students
within the school environment. This position involves providing
direct nursing care, managing chronic and acute health conditions,
and implementing individualized healthcare plans to support
students' educational success. The Pediatric School RN collaborates
closely with educators, parents, and healthcare providers to ensure
a comprehensive approach to student health. Additionally, the role
includes health education, emergency response, and advocacy to
foster a safe and supportive school community. Ultimately, the
Pediatric School RN contributes to creating an environment where
all students can thrive physically, emotionally, and academically.
Minimum Qualifications: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the
state of employment within the United States. Bachelor of Science
in Nursing (BSN) degree or equivalent from an accredited nursing
program. Experience or training in pediatric nursing or school
nursing preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to school health
services. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a school
or pediatric healthcare setting. Advanced certifications such as
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Familiarity with
Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 Plans. Strong
background in health education and community outreach.
Responsibilities: Provide direct nursing care to students,
including assessment, treatment, and monitoring of health
conditions. Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized
healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans for students with
chronic illnesses or special healthcare needs. Administer
medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring compliance with
legal and ethical standards. Collaborate with school staff,
families, and healthcare providers to coordinate care and promote
health education. Respond promptly and effectively to medical
emergencies and injuries occurring on school premises. Maintain
accurate and confidential health records in accordance with
regulatory requirements. Conduct health screenings and immunization
compliance monitoring to support public health initiatives. Provide
health counseling and education to students and staff on topics
such as nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention. Participate in
multidisciplinary team meetings to support students’ academic and
health-related needs. Stay current with best practices in pediatric
nursing and school health through ongoing professional development.
Skills: The Pediatric School RN utilizes clinical nursing skills
daily to assess and manage a wide range of pediatric health issues,
ensuring students receive appropriate care. Effective communication
skills are essential for collaborating with students, families,
educators, and healthcare providers to coordinate care and provide
health education. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
are applied when responding to emergencies and developing
individualized healthcare plans. Organizational skills are
necessary to maintain accurate health records and comply with
regulatory requirements. Additionally, empathy and cultural
sensitivity are vital to support diverse student populations and
foster a trusting, inclusive school environment.
