Located in the heart of East Oakland, YU is a neighborhood hub offering young people services and programs to increase physical and mental wellbeing, community connection, educational attainment, and career achievement among youth members.For more information about Youth UpRising go to: Summary Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer/Programs Manager, the HRG coordinates and performs a variety of professional level administrative, technical, analytical, and consultative human resources functions. Areas of responsibility may include the following: employee recruitment, employee onboarding and offboarding, orientation, general employment services, benefits and leave administration, employee communications, workers compensation and personnel records maintenance. Primary Responsibilities Assists in daily operations (e.g., event planning, documentation, recruitment support, etc.). Communicates with a variety of people (e.g. internal staff, consultants administration, external entities, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary communication through a variety of media to ensure completion of organizational processes while remaining in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g., personnel, schedules, reports, guidelines, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of information for future reference and in compliance with established policies. Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g., in-service training, workshops, etc.). Prepares employee records (e.g., personnel action forms, contact information, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accurate historical data for all organizational processes. Assist with recruitment efforts, and support hiring managers in strategy, selection and pre-hire process. Responsible for the on-boarding and off boarding programs which includes orientation program and exit interviews. Assist with performance management and annual evaluation programs. Assists with training programs for all staff. Interprets and administers benefits, disability and workers compensation. Distributes benefit information and submits required documentation. Provides research and background information to facilitate administration and delivery of employee benefits, ensuring a high level of customer service to the organizations staff. Responsible for data entry of Human Resources transactions into the HRMS and payroll systems, ensuring accurate and compliant practices and procedures. Interprets YU Employment Handbook for staff, as necessary. Audit invoices related to benefits, and request checks, tracking payments and costs. Coordinates with all vendors providing services to the Human Resources areas. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in human resources management or related field and three (3) years increasingly responsible human resources-related experience. ADMINISTRATIVE AND HUMAN RESOURCES EXPERIENCE - Administrative experienceworking in a fast-paced non-profit organization. At least three years HR experience, including updating systems, practices and procedures and exposure to managing worker's compensation and leave of absence claims. PROFESSIONAL INTEGRITY - Values-based leadership. Highest levels of personal and professional integrity with an ability to maintain confidential information concerning personal, financial, or medical matters. DETAIL ORIENTATION -Ability to complete basic and routine HR tasks. Ability to enterdata with speed and accuracy. Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks. STRONG COMMUNICATION SKILLS - Exceptional oral and written communication skills including the demonstrated ability to research, assimilate and analyze information, compose documents, and present data in a clear and concise manner to appropriate personnel. Capacity to both lead and participate in cross-functional teams to define issues and agree on processes, strategies and outcomes. STRATEGIC THINKING - Well-honed ability to independently anticipate and analyze situations, define problems and objectives, recognize viable alternatives and formulate solutions, with the ability to be flexible and adaptable and revise strategies as necessary. COMPUTER SKILLS - Proficient in Windows, and Microsoft Office Applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio. Experienced with data-base systems, a plus, as well as HRIS and/or payroll system experience. AVAILABILITY for occasional evening and weekend work.
