What we do

Our revolutionary electric, ventless, zero-emissions commercial coffee roaster uses clean technology and does not require gas lines or expensive ventilation. It s the most consistent and controllable roaster available, the lowest carbon footprint commercial roaster ever made, and was designed by coffee people who want a better future for coffee roasting. Our roasting platform allows Bellwether customers to easily and responsibly source green coffee from incredible coffee farms around the world, expertly roast using artisan-crafted roast profiles (or create their own), and share fresh, delicious coffee just the way their customers like it.

About the role

In this role, you will report to the Director of Software Engineering and lead Bellwether s application development roadmap. Your influence on our software products will impact everything from manufacturing to operations and customer delight, pushing the limits of the Internet-of-Things, eCommerce, and data analytics to build cohesive digital experiences for the company s stakeholders. You will enjoy interfacing with a range of team members, from system engineers building firmware to mechanical engineers cracking the code on the thermodynamics of zero emissions.

Key Responsibilities What success looks like

  • Shape the organization s technical roadmap and vision, which will both be guided by and influence the company s overall objectives
  • Build high-velocity teams through cultural leadership, technical management, and mentoring practices.
  • Identify staffing needs, hire, and onboard a diverse team of exceptional engineers, maintaining a high-quality bar
  • Own the software organization s performance achieving a measurable, predictable, and sustainable velocity.
  • Own the architectural runway, conduct gap analysis, research emerging technologies, and make calculated decisions on how to optimally compose our system based on in-house, open-source, and commercially available tooling
  • Collaborate closely with our product design team to deliver on our vision of bringing the joy of coffee roasting to all.
  • Work closely with our infrastructure team to ensure our code can be securely deployed and observed across IoT devices, cloud, and mobile.
  • Work closely with our quality team to ensure we deliver a coherent experience across hardware, software, and services
  • Help ensure the company s security posture in collaboration with relevant cross-functional teams
  • Educate internally and externally on the digital and electrified future of the coffee industry and how we are blazing the path there
    Qualifications
    • 8+ years related engineering experience at technology-driven companies
    • 3+ years of management experience, including leading larger-sized teams (15+ members)
    • Strong ability to translate business requirements into architectural frameworks and hands-on design guidance for implementation teams
    • A love for coding
    • Hands-on experience with AWS Well-Architected Framework, serverless architectures, microservices architectures, container orchestration, Linux embedded systems, data engineering and/or streaming analytics
    • Previous experience building reporting, monitoring, and observability solutions
    • Proven ability to deliver fault-tolerant, high-availability API platforms and web applications
    • Demonstrated success scaling systems and organizations that meet enterprise customer requirements
    • Strong foundational knowledge to build secure and reliable distributed system architectures
    • Experience partnering to recruit and hire great engineering talent
    • Ability to build trusting relationships with team members to create a safe, positive, and productive working environment
    • Strong commitment to coaching and mentoring the team (Developing code is developing the team)
    • An infectious reverence for quality code and the process that creates it
    • Proven ability to operate autonomously while projecting values and vision across a distributed, global team
    • Eligibility to work in the United States
    • Proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 is required before commencing work on-site at Bellwether Headquarters
