Join our team of Senior Database Administrators to support complex
data warehouse implementations on the UNIX/Linux operating systems.
The Senior Database Administrator provides database administration
support for a large number of University applications.
Responsibilities include operational support, design and
development of infrastructure systems, consultation with
application development teams, performance tuning and trouble
shooting, database architecture and design, and requirements
analysis and definition. Work is performed in a large-scale
computing facility using a variety of software tools. Applies
advanced database administration concepts to resolve highly complex
issues of diverse scope where incumbent must assess business needs
and technical considerations with minimal direction in order to
complete database projects of advanced scope and complexity.
Selects methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain
results. Implements database solutions from evaluation to
implementation of large enterprise level hardware and software.

Applies advanced concepts in working on highly complex projects
including all aspects of enterprise class database administration,
including the management of structured and unstructured content.
Initiates, designs and communicates with senior level personnel
regarding database administration studies, summary reports and
background material including approaches, trends and sources.
Interacts with teams of advanced IT professionals as a proactive
member. Provides software consulting for database performance and
Coordinate efforts of the Infrastructure teams in all matters
associated with database administration
Set up and tune development, QA, and production environments.
Provide ongoing administration and monitoring of all database

Participate in load and performance testing and tuning

Implements database solutions from evaluation to implementation of
large enterprise level hardware
and software. Formulates procedures and standards relating to
Setup and tune development, QA and production DB environments.
Determine appropriate security measures for databases and
participate in their implementation and ongoing capacity
Evaluate, propose, plan, and implement enhancements to the ITS
Recommend and evaluate appropriate software packages or propose
in-house developed solutions.
Review emerging database technologies and make recommendations for
Analyze scope and objective of various business requirements, and
designs and implements infrastructure for business solutions.
Provide database application design/development for other
application groups within ITS. Perform a backup role for
non-database areas of the unit.
Develop and maintain detailed processes and procedures. Database
Provide substantial input to initiatives (and associated policies
and standards) related to or growing out of changes intended to
improve best practices and facilitate cross-group resource sharing
in such areas as database programming, design, and naming

training as required for applications programmers. Provide on-call
services on a rotation schedule for 24x7 production support.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field or and
equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Minimum of 7 years of recent Unix/Linux DB2, MySQL and/or MS SQL
Data Warehouse experience with large scale production data
warehouse, with high availability and performance requirements.
Advanced knowledge of database management systems and
Knowledge of conceptual database design.
Advanced database querying and modeling skills working with
moderately complex databases.
Knowledge relating to capacity planning and interface
Demonstrates good judgment and decision-making; problem
identification and resolution; identifying measures of system
performance and the actions to improve performance through
application configuration and programming techniques.
Excellent written communication skills including the ability to
draft clear, concise specifications, documentation and reports.
Demonstrates reasoning and ability to develop original ideas to
Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills, service
orientation, active listening, effective verbal and written
communication skills and organizational skills.
Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks. Ability to work
independently on complex technical projects as well as on a team of
technical professionals and relevant decision makers.
Previous experience implementing database enhancements that improve
performance and reliability of the system, the software, hardware
and operating system level.
Strong security skills for protecting the operating system,
software, data and hardware.
Technical skills to develop, implement and test disaster recovery
functions using backup technologies.
Experience in data migration projects and technologies,
writing/converting stored procedures and data migration tools along
with defining capacity requirements. Required
Knowledgeable about professional approaches and relevant standards
and technology for management of unstructured data such as text and
Knowledge of test software code in client server environment.
Skills necessary to develop procedures and standards relating to
database management systems.
Knowledge of AWS RDS and other cloud-based database technology.
