This is an exciting opportunity to be a critical catalyst of the growth of The Unity Council by supporting our Chief Executive Officer to execute on key business initiatives. As our Chief of Staff, you will play a key role in helping our organization focus on and achieve its most meaningful strategic goals in coming years. This role reports directly to the CEO and has a highly influential role championing TUC---s strategic initiatives. The Chief of Staff will make a critical impact by owning a combination of strategy, project management, internal and external communications. The Chief of Staff will drive strategic, cross-functional initiatives and align leadership to ensure success. The Chief of Staff will lead and deliver cross-functional projects and drive the accomplishment of their goals, strengthening TUC---s impact as a leading social equity development corporation. The Chief of Staff supports the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The position is designed to provide high level support, and project management. In this capacity, the Chief of Staff will perform advanced work with respect to local, state and federal policy with a variety of stakeholders. Additionally, the Chief of Staff will act as the ---right hand person--- and ---proxy for the CEO--- in a variety of situations and contexts. The Chief of Staff will provide support and formal communication with the Board of Directors. This position works cooperatively and professionally with all internal and external customers including the Executive Team and Management, staff, parents and students, board members, officials, and funders. In this role, the position shares important and pertinent information that could impact the successful daily operating activities of our organization. The position is ideally suited for someone with a passion for delivering high-quality and consistent implementation and execution of projects, a high level of attention to detail, effective communication and follow through, as well as a high level of integrity and accountability to the mission and vision of the organization as well as to its key leadership. Responsibilities Direct Support of the CEO -- Set the CEO---s strategic priorities: identify the areas of focus and metrics for success and evaluate progress. -- Strategically manage CEO---s time: work with Executive Assistant to look at long term calendar, evaluate opportunities determine fit with strategic priorities and mission. -- Meeting preparation and follow up: review upcoming meetings and events for the week to ensure the CEO has all of the information needed to be as productive as possible and send out agendas or documents to meeting attendees as necessary. Research meeting attendees and prepare briefs for CEO. Work with other departments to ensure correct information and data is available to the CEO. -- Review and prepare internal and external CEO communications: reports, speeches and presentations for the CEO. -- Monitor information flow: Ensure CEO---s involvement in a project or decision-making process at the right moment. -- Interdepartmental relationships: build and maintain strong interdepartmental relationships to ensure leadership success. -- Strategic planning: work with CEO and other senior executives to develop strategic priorities for the organization. -- Add structure and process for better communication within the executive team as well as across teams; ensure activities are running efficiently Policy, Advocacy and Relationship Building -- Recommend policy positions, stay abreast of current federal state and local policy and its impacts on the community and organization. -- Track, organize and report on policy and develop current policy positions, actions items and recommendations. Prepare briefs, position papers and recommendations for CEO, Senior Executives and Board of Directors. -- External Meetings: attend meetings on behalf of the organization, and/or as a proxy for the CEO. Speak on behalf of the organization where necessary. -- External relationships: build and maintain relationships with local officials, stakeholders, partners and funders, and convert/steward those to funding relationships whenever possible. Track communications, identify areas and partnerships that need attention and/or focus for maximum impact. -- Track CEO external relationships and partnership priorities. Work with Development Department to align external relationships with organizational fundraising strategy. -- Identify strategic opportunities to build The Unity Council brand. Project Management -- Oversee large, often cross-functional organization-wide projects or initiatives. -- Bring together multiple stakeholders and help drive decisions. -- Research, benchmark, analyze data, and make recommendations regarding strategic initiatives and priorities. -- Work with senior executives to create systems and processes to streamline operations. Board of Directors -- Work with CEO and COO to develop board meeting content and reports. -- Prepare CEO reports for board meetings. -- Work with Executive Assistant to ensure agenda, reports and meeting materials are prepared. Qualifications -- Advanced Degree or commiserate work experience. -- 7 years or more of formal work experience. 2-3 years of work experience in non-profits. Consulting and business experience also desirable. -- Experience with project management, hard deadlines, and quick turnarounds on work product. -- Experience working with historically underserved communities. -- Experience working in an outcomes-oriented and politically charged work environment. -- Desire to take on added responsibilities, aspirations to grow professionally, and a desire to advance within the organizational structure or desire to build own organization. -- Exhibit professionalism: While representing the CEO and the organization maintain high standards of professional appearance, communication, organization, detail orientation, follow through, and attitude. -- Evidence of mission alignment in work history, volunteer activities, and/or personal experience. -- Interest in leadership and management. -- Spanish language proficiency, verbal and written, preferred. Strong critical thinking and analytical skills Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask Engaged relationship builder with advanced interpersonal and negotiation skills Internal initiative and track record of precisely executing complex projects with minimal direction High attention to detail with an ability to think strategically and make recommendations Strong data analysis and reporting skills Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
