Environmental Scientist, Engineer or Radiation Health Physicist (OAK) Tetra Tech Inc. is currently seeking a few full-time Environmental Scientist, Engineer, or Radiation Health Physicist Professional to work in our Oakland, CA or Albuquerque, NM office. The selected candidate will: Be familiar with or have desire to learn both U.S. EPA and U.S. NRC regulations and guidance documents for purposes of site characterization, including but not limited to CERCLA, RCRA, MARSSIM, and MARLAP. Perform preliminary site assessments (PA), site inspections (SI), removal site evaluations (RSE) and expanded site inspections (ESI) on sites with radionuclide and non-radioactive hazardous substances. Operate and/or oversee field teams and be familiar with field equipment, including radiation instrumentation, for site assessment and radiation health surveys. Recommend adaptations and modifications of scientific or engineering methods using independent judgment. Execute assignments that have clear and specific objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables. Possess or have strong desire to learn and implement complex radiological monitoring techniques and site characterization studies. Enjoy spending long days outdoors and hiking at remote sites in the Western U.S. when performing field work. Be familiar with the application of statistics in environmental monitoring for large scale multi-media site characterizations at remote abandoned mine sites throughout the U.S. Job Requirements: The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of practical scientific or environmental engineering work experience in performing the responsibilities listed above; or 2 years' practical experience if possessing Master's Degree in relevant discipline. In addition, you will have: Demonstrated experience in support of EPA programs, such as Response, Assessment, and Evaluation Services (RAES) site assessment and remote site work. Experience with radioactive contamination is preferred. Experience or ability to learn calculations for radiation exposure limits for workers, safe work methods, and decontamination. Strong leadership skills and ability to lead small sampling teams without direct supervision. Strong written and oral communication skills desired. Experience using computer software including word processing, Minitab, ProUCL, spreadsheet, and database programs is preferred. Familiarity with naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM) or technologically enhanced natural occurring radioactive materials (TENORM) in uranium mining, Oil and Gas, or other industries. Knowledge of Native American culture or language is a strong plus. Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in environmental sciences, physical sciences (e.g., geology, hydrology, toxicology, radiation science, health physics), or engineering (civil, environmental or other relevant discipline) from an accredited college or university. Master's Degree in engineering, physical science, or health physics (or similar discipline) is a plus. Professional Engineer (PE), Professional Geologist, Certified Health Physics (CHP), or other similar certification is a plus. 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus. The work involves both office and field environments. Field work anticipated to be in remote areas of Arizona and New Mexico. You must be able to carry field equipment (35 to 40 pounds) and don personal protective gear as needed. You must also be able to work in outdoor areas during all seasons. This position requires roughly 25% travel. This position requires you to drive on a regular basis and will require passing a motor vehicle record (MVR) background check.
