EBALDC is seeking a full-time Assistant Controller for the Accounting Department. Summary:Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will lead all day-to-day accounting operations of over 35 residential/commercial properties, the development projects, and the corporate entity. The Assistant Controller will directly supervise the Accounting Manager and manage a team of five accountants and will be responsible for the monthly/quarterly/annual financial reporting, general ledger reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grants administration, development accounting, the Single Audit, annual financial audit, compliance audits, income tax returns, cost certifications, banking, company credit cards, and maintenance of an adequate accounting system.The Assistant Controller will ensure that EBALDC has adequate systems, procedures, and internal controls in place to mitigate risk, enhance accuracy of EBALDC's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with the US GAAP. Additionally, the Assistant Controller will oversee all compliance and post award management for federal grants in compliance with the Single Audit. The Assistant Controller must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace while managing an accounting department of six members. The Assistant Controller should be able to exercise good judgment, and possess strong problem solving and decision-making skills.Key Duties and Responsibilities:Finance and Accounting LeadershipReview all accounts and ledgers ensuring compliance with US GAAP and regulatory requirementsPreparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements. This includes the timely preparation of the quarterly EBALDC and Subsidiaries (EBALDC Only) financial statementsMaintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures. Implement and monitor payment authority practices and establish and maintain cash controls. Maintain the Chart of AccountsMain contact person of the external auditors, working directly with them on the annual financial audit, as well as the Single Audit. Will review the draft audit reports, draft tax returns, draft waterfall, and draft surplus cash distribution prior to finalizationAssist and coordinate the preparation of all account schedules and other requests from the external auditors for the annual financial and compliance audits as well as Cost CertificationsIn charge of scheduling the audits and preparing and maintaining the audit tracking sheet to ensure deliverables are submitted timely and in constant communication with the auditorsReview all surplus cash distribution payments, making sure the check requests from the Asset Management team are accurate with adequate supporting documentation, and making the necessary corrections while training the Asset Management team at the same timeEnsure that all journal entries have adequate supporting documentation, instructing the Accounting Manager how to book them and making sure they are properly booked in YardiRespond to the Accounting team's questions and train and mentor them accordinglyPrepare the development project's close of escrow journal entries in collaboration with the Real Estate Development team and the accounting manager, ensuring accuracy and adequate supporting documentationRespond to the Accounting team's questions and train and mentor them accordinglyRespond to questions and requests from the entire EBALDC team while exercising strong problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skillsComplete confirmation letters from various auditors Respond to questions from various lendersOversee the preparation of development drawsClosely monitor the intercompany accounts receivable to ensure timely collection of paymentsAssist in the implementation of financial reporting software (Yardi) module upgrades and technology initiativesAdminister banking and the corporate credit cardsMaintain good professional relationships with auditors, bankers, lenders, investors, and government entities by responding to their questions and requestsPerform other accounting functions as requested by the Controller and CFOGrant ManagementEnsure the accuracy of the reporting and tracking of net assets released from restrictionsMaintain financial records for each program, grant and project in a manner that facilitates funder reports and requirementsFollow cost allocation principles and maintain current and accurate allocation methodologyProvide accurate and timely reporting on the financial activity of individual programs to program managersAssist in all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grantsTeam LeadershipLeverage strengths of the current accounting team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.Hire and supervise staff holding them accountable and provide professional development.Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:B.S. in Accounting or similar education. CPA required. At least 3 years of experience with Low Income Housing Tax Credit as an auditor or accountant highly preferredAudit of affordable housing entities and preparation of cost certifications and tax returns experience highly preferredMinimum of 3 years managing an accounting or audit staffStrong knowledge and experience in applying US GAAP, procedures, and internal controlsExpertise in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and Sharepoint. Significant experience with accounting software, especially YARDI or similar programsNonprofit experience helpfulPersonal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to EBALDC's missionKeen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills, which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reportingStrong interpersonal and communication skillsPhysical Demands:This job requires simple grasping and fine manipulation, sitting at a desk and using a computer for extended periods of time, moderate use of telephone, standing, walking, bending and reaching.
