Apply to be a Recreation Leader I. The City of Oakland is currently
recruiting to fill part-time Recreation Leader I positions in
Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development Centers for the
summer. Working hours will vary from week to week. Recreation
Leader I's coordinate cultural programs, special events, and field
trips; issue and monitor the use of recreational equipment; perform
general facility and equipment inspections and routine maintenance.
Recreation Leader I's are primarily responsible for providing
customer service, working collaboratively with colleagues,
displaying role model proper behavior, conducting light cleaning as
needed, maintaining supplies and equipment, preparing snacks,
coaching sports teams, and training junior counselors. Additional
duties may vary by recreation center.
Under supervision in Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth
Development, Recreation Leader I's use a full range of technical
skills to conduct and provide leadership for recreational programs
in a community based setting; provide recreational equipment to
patrons; and perform related duties as assigned. Recreation Leader
I is distinguished from the higher level Recreation Leader II
classification in that the latter is responsible for on-site
programs and more complex recreational programs and provides
direction to assigned City staff and volunteers.

Examples of Duties
- Lead games and free-play, arts and craft activities.

Minimum Requirements for Application
Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent
to the following minimum qualifications is acceptable.
High school diploma or equivalent.
At least five-hundred (500) hours of part-time experience
comparable to City of Oakland Recreation Aide, participating in a
wide variety of recreation activities including sports, arts and
crafts, and/or other organized activities.
Candidate must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or older
by June 1, 2021 to apply.
Additional Qualifications:Bilingual skills in Spanish,
Cantonese, and Mandarin are highly desirable for certain
