Founding High School Spanish Teacher (21-22)
Competencies and Qualifications
Lodestar High School is in its second year of growth as it adds
a 10th grade this coming fall. The founding teaching positions at
Lodestar High School are an ideal fit for teachers who are highly
motivated to contribute to the growth of an educational institution
in East Oakland and have a desire to, one day, become school
leaders. Being a member of a founding team is a once in a lifetime
opportunity to create a school that will positively impact the
lives of students and families for years to come. The founding team
will have agency and voice in the design, growth and trajectory of
the high school. They will work closely with the upper school
Principal, Assistant Principal and Dean of Students to create the
high school of their dreams.

Founding High School Spanish Teacher to join our team at Lodestar,

Your responsibilities will include:
You will teach sections of Spanish at varying levels from
Spanish 1 to AP Spanish eventually. Currently, grades served will
include 9th and 10th graders. Exact schedule TBD.
Builds and maintains classroom culture that is supportive and
learning-centered, undergirded by strong management, efficient
procedures and systems, but most evident in the full inclusion of
African-American boys, students with trauma, and students with IEPs
in the social and learning community.
Demonstrate culturally responsive pedagogy and practice
including unrelenting high expectations and an assets-based
approach for every student.
Plan, internalize, and implement effective, grade-level
standards-based curriculum, units, and lessons that are
learner-driven and are modified or differentiated while maintaining
rigor to provide access and results for students with IEPs,
African-American and ELL students.
Ensure that students are at the center of their own learning and
deeply engaged in ways that foster agency and self-direction.
Utilize, collect, and analyze rigorous, student-engaged
assessments, both formative and summative, to identify and address
students' areas of growth and mastery of learning objectives.
Create positive relationships by building nurturing and
affirming teacher-student, student-student, and teacher-family
partnerships with a focus on building a community of risk-taking,
Grow and contribute as an educator, colleague, learner, and
community member including engaging in professional development and
your own growth as a teacher in service of student learning and

We would love to hear from you if your educational toolbox
includes the following:
B.A. or B.S. required; Master's Degree, preferred
Appropriate California Teaching Credential (or ability to attain
one), required and experience teaching secondary Spanish to high
Deep knowledge of CCSS, inquiry based learning, curriculum
planning, and data analysis, preferred
3+ years successful teaching serving urban youth
Experience teaching in a progressive and personalized school
model a plus
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
This position will report to Jeffrey Camarillo- Lodestar Middle
School & Founding High School Principal
This position is 1.0 FTE full-time exempt and follows a 10-month
work year (190 days) with significant student-free days for
professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and
interaction with families. All instructional staff will report in
late July/early August, 2021 (exact calendar TBD).
Common Building Hours: All teachers are expected to maintain
hours of 8:00 - 4:00 pm M, Tu, Th, Fri and 8:00-5:00 on Wednesdays
one day a week for Professional Development.
