The College Preparatory School in Oakland, California, seeks a dynamic educator to help develop and teach a Wellness and Belonging curriculum to 10th and 11th graders. Part of the four-year Compass program, the Wellness and Belonging curriculum integrates social justice education with personal decision-making and individual and interpersonal health. This educator reports to the Dean of Equity and Belonging, and works closely with the School Counselor, and Director of Experiential and Community Based Learning, and the Dean of Students to develop, deliver, and refine this new program offering.

As a member of the faculty, the Wellness and Belonging educator will also have the duties of a full-time faculty member, including participating as an advisor and helping with other Student Life and chaperoning duties as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with the Dean of Equity and Belonging and School Counselor to develop and refine 10th and 11th grade Compass Program (Wellness and Belonging curriculum)
  • Lead weekly Compass classes for 10th and 11th graders
  • Support individual students with tools and strategies related to health and belonging
  • Coordinate with Recreational Health and Fitness program lead to integrate with Compass Program
  • Support Dean of Equity and Belonging in implementing other student-facing equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives
  • Co-design and participate in sophomore and junior retreats

Qualifications and desired characteristics:

  • Background and experience teaching health, wellness, human development, equity and belonging or related subjects
  • Passion and experience working with adolescents on sensitive issues of mental health, identity, positive sexuality, substance use, and other topics
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and commitment to supporting student wellbeing
  • Collaborative worker who is enthusiastic about working with multiple administrators and teaching partners
  • Strong cultural competency skills and experience working with families from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Bachelor degree required, specialized training in relevant fields preferred
