We are currently looking for an *on-call Creative Design Specialist* employee in either our *Ann Arbor, MI, Cambridge, MA, Oakland, CA,**Seattle, WA, Chicago, IL, Princeton, NJ, Washington, DC* locations or work from home to support the user-centered data visualizations of research-focused work. Someone skilled at translating complex analytics and research for a wide range of audiences and fine-tuning the fundamental design details that help drive impact and influence evidence-based decision making will make a great fit. This individual understands that the time our audience has to find and absorb our content is limited, and our work must grab and hold their attention and facilitate action.

* Responsibilities*

* Work with project and communications teams to help implement communication strategies across client-driven projects and corporate initiatives * Review design requests and work with design and project teams to determine the best course for meeting client and company goals * Work with staff throughout the organization to co-create design products and help translate technical findings and data to user-friendly, integrated designs in multiple formats, including long-form PDF reports, corporate and client websites, animations/videos, presentation decks, data visualizations, dashboards, infographics, as well as promotional materials and dissemination products * Work with software developers and in-house data scientists to generate user/industry-influenced wireframes and prototypes * Design and produce products that are in compliance with Section 508 standards for accessibility * Ability to collaborate, remain level-headed and empathetic when partnering with project and initiative teams who are working under short timeframes to meet multiple requirements * Communicate the importance of strong design fundamentals to colleagues throughout the organization * Incorporate storytelling and compelling narrative into visual design * Participate in brainstorms and co-create creative concepts * Stay up-to-date with industry standards, best practices, and software, and share these learnings with the team * Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team.
* Meet deadlines and update teams on progress through project management software, email, and in person

* Position Requirements*:

* Candidates must have a portfolio representing experience in interactive and static data visualization for user interfaces and documents. Portfolios showing experience in foundations, international, health, and social issues are a plus.
* Bachelor's degree or higher in graphic design, UX/UI, data visualization, or related field * Eight or more years of experience in producing complex designs in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, PowerPoint, and Word * Expert knowledge of front-end development languages (HTML, CSS, jquery) is a plus * Experience in directly creating or working with development teams in D3, R Shiney, or Tableau is a plus * Experience developing annotated mocks for software development teams using Adobe software or other prototyping tools such as Sketch or Balsamiq is a must * Expert knowledge of front-end development languages (HTML, CSS, jquery) is a plus * Certificate in ADA/508 compliance training is a plus * Understanding of ever-changing social media content requirements is a plus * Must be able to work on a PC
