Job Description

The Business Process Architect for Blue Shield of California plays a key role as part of the Business Process Management team in delivering and collaborating on all aspects of enterprise business process improvements, including enterprise process transformation and process re-engineering. The Business Process Architect will drive measurement of business effectiveness, research business processes, practices, and analyze process data to develop and implement sustainable, repeatable and quantifiable operational and strategic process improvements.


  • A proven ability to deliver transformational and improvement projects
  • Manages large-scale, cross-functional, complex process improvement efforts
  • Develops frameworks, approaches, and plans to analyze and resolve ambiguous problems
  • Perform detailed information gathering and investigation to understand the problem
  • Develop a broad set of pragmatic recommendations
  • Plan and execute project methodologies such as charter development, stakeholder analysis, process design, testing, and implementation plans
  • Have outstanding logic and analytical skills as well as demonstrated capability to solve complex problems
  • Scope new projects into the pipeline
  • Analyzes and develops solutions that facilitate continuous productivity, capacity, and quality improvement across all dimensions
  • Oversees and reviews the deliverables of the Business Process Management team members to ensure accurate and complete analysis and deliverable consistency
  • Develops and coaches team members on Lean and Agile methodologies, principles, and tools through role-modeling and communication
  • Assesses and determines the appropriate methodology, tools, and techniques to utilize to effectively improvement
  • Build relationships with executive business partners and sponsors to foster a culture of continuous improvement across the enterprise
  • Possess strong interpersonal influencing and leadership skills to work with our internal client base
  • Develops and implements proactive solutions for process innovation, including administrative expense reductions, service improvement, and continuous quality improvement
  • Manage a variety of viewpoints to build commitment and create positive outcomes for multiple parties
  • Simplify complex issues and communicate effectively to stakeholders
  • Experience creating and implementing change management approach and plans

Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant business process management / continuous improvement experience, including 6+ years of consultation or management experience, and 10+ years' experience with Project Management
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred
  • One or more of the following certifications are required: Six sigma black belt, Certified Quality Manager
  • Expert Knowledge of change management concepts and techniques
  • Mastery level knowledge and skills within a wide variety or process improvement, design, and project management skills
  • Proven success using business process methodologies and principles, lean tools and techniques
  • Experience leading teams in a highly regulated industry and within a matrixed environment
  • Works with ambiguity and willingness to fail fast while being able to seamlessly pivot as necessary

Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
