As a Sr. Tech Specialist, Durability you will be working with a world class vehicle engineering team to build the best cars in the world. You will play a leading role in driving vehicle design using CAE to meet stringent durability requirements. You will be expected to demonstrate excellent technical skills, the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment. 

The Role:

  • Define vehicle level, system and component requirements for a wide range of automotive systems
  • Lead and further build a team of durability analysis and test engineers
  • Develop and run a fully capable laboratory for structural testing
  • Develop test plans to support program objectives
  • Root cause failures
  • Maintain traceable documentation for all durability analysis and test work
  • Support the creation of standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers
  • Develop strength and durability finite element models for analysis and optimization of vehicle structure
  • Carryout static and fatigue analysis of vehicle structures
  • Develop CAE methods and process for solving engineering problems
  • Challenge established traditional CAE methods and process to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Provide input in the creation of component specification, component DFMEA, and other technical design documents where analysis plays a pivotal role
  • Lead development of additional virtual and rig testing capabilities, including development of a virtual proving ground and rig tests
  • Perform a leading role in the development of durability loads, correlation, analysis, and results reporting
  • Primary responsibility of performing Durability simulation of vehicle structures using finite element tools such as Abaqus, NASTRAN, nCode Design Life, ANSA and HyperView / MetaPost
  • Setting up the sub-system and vehicle level performance attributes
  • Provide input in the creation of component specification, component DFMEA, and other technical design documents where analysis plays a pivotal role
  • Participate in developing analysis procedures for durability load cases and benchmarking

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in mechanical engineering or similar field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Expertise in high cycle, low cycle and vibration fatigue
  • Knowledge of industry standard analysis and testing techniques
  • Knowledge of automotive proving ground test surfaces and SAE test specifications
  • Experience in durability test planning for vehicle level tests such as 4-poster / RLDA is a plus
  • Strong fundamental knowledge of mechanics of materials and in-depth knowledge of stress failure theory, buckling and fatigue theory
  • Understanding of multi-body dynamic load profiles and ability to intelligently apply for full-vehicle fatigue analysis
  • Proficiency in using ANSA, HyperMesh, HyperView, MetaPost, Abaqus, nCode, and LS-DYNA software
  • Expertise with application in the Linear/ Non-Linear static, Transient dynamic, Random Vibration fatigue of automotive structures is required
  • Strong academic background in mechanics of materials and in-depth knowledge of stress failure theory, buckling and fatigue theory, materials, and structural analysis
  • Experience with closures (side doors, tailgate, lift gate, hood) components and vehicle systems
