ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS NOW!This is a temporary 9-week summer law clerk paying -position -(6/6/ 22 8/5/22) -BayLegal invites law students -with -a -strong -interest in social -justice -advocacy and public interest to apply to our full-time summer program. - The positions are based in -five of our -county -offices: -Richmond (Contra Costa), Oakland (Alameda), San Francisco, Redwood City (San Mateo) and San Jose (Santa Clara) and may involve travel as necessary to best serve our low-income clients. -See -below description of our current work environment due to COVID-19. -Duties & Responsibilities - as -a BayLegal law clerk, -you will have the opportunity -to: -Work in close collaboration with BayLegal substantive experts and legal teams; -Learn and advocate -for the diverse legal needs of communities affected by systemic and structural inequities in one or more of the counties we serve to reduce homelessness, enhance stability and address social injustice; -Under the supervision of staff attorneys, law clerks may engage in our work in a number of ways including, -

Writing briefs and other legal memoranda; -Participating in outreach and education; - -Assisting self-represented litigants in our legal information clinics; - -Representing clients at administrative hearings and state court hearings; and/or participating in broader impact litigation; andEngaging in other tasks and projects that further BayLegal's operations as a non-profit. -Requirements/Qualifications/About the Successful Candidate: -Humility -in -working -with -colleagues and -clients -across the spectrum of diversity, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, -immigrant status, religious identity, -physical -and -mental -disabilities, -and/or limited English proficiency. -Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination required (self-certification). -Currently enrolled in law school -Completion of 2nd -year, including evidence, at time internship begins -preferred. - -Students who speak Spanish, Cantonese, Russian, Vietnamese, or other Southeast Asian languages, are encouraged to apply. -COVID-19 remote work: BayLegal is committed to the health and safety of our staff, clients, and community. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, most BayLegal employees remain primarily working remotely. - BayLegal has implemented detailed health and safety protocols to minimize risk of exposure and has an evolving plan for expanding local receptions hours to the public and increased in-person activities in our offices and community-based advocacy sites. -Employees are expected to reside in California and at a distance allowing them to commute to their physical BayLegal base location and service delivery locations as needed and in compliance with public health advisories.BayLegal has implemented and continues to explore additional technologies to make working remotely as efficient and connected as possible. - All employees receive a flat-rate monthly amount reimbursed for work-related use of personal IT equipment, including internet, and home.
