of Emergency Medicine (DEM) at UC San Diego was established in 1977
and became a full academic department at the University in 2013.
With over 80 full-time faculty, the UCSD Department of Emergency
Medicine (DEM) provides care for nearly 150,000 patients annually
at three Emergency Departments - level 1 trauma center, NIH Cancer
Center, and rural critical access hospital. The Department has
robust programs in education, clinical training, and research. Most
recently, the Senior Emergency Care Unit (SECU) at the La Jolla ED
received the first tier one accreditation by the American Academy
of Emergency Physicians in the western United States.Under general
direction, the Staff Research Associate will support DEM Research
efforts by coordinating and working on multiple studies and
projects. They will maintain ongoing direct contact with multiple
PIs, other faculty co-investigators, and support staff across
departments and institutions to ensure the successful completion of
projects. Incumbent acts as a critical member of the research team,
providing original ideas of importance to study planning,
development, study design, project management, study implementation
and conduct. Incumbent will also assist with grant writing and will
author and coauthor scientific presentations and manuscripts.
Additional support efforts will include conducting interventions
and data collection activities as specified by research protocols,
maintain accurate records, prepare study-related reports, manage
submissions to UCSD's Institutional Review Board, maintain relevant
databases and will perform intermediate to advanced statistical
analysis and interpretation. They will also lead in the
developments and implementation of ED-based telehealth projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced theoretical knowledge and/or preferably Master's
Degree and experience in health services, healthcare informatics,
and clinical research.
- Proven ability to contribute original ideas in the development
of study aims, study design, measurement selection and required
study implementation. Experience performing clinical research
duties in a clinical research environment such as an academic
research institution and/or a research hospital.
- Demonstrated experience writing and submitting grant
proposals.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience
summarizing and presenting data in formal and informal
settings.
- Demonstrated organizational and management skills.
- Demonstrated experience writing scientific manuscripts for
scholarly publications.
- Demonstrated experience with all aspects of research projects
and clinical trials.
- Demonstrated experience with research design and analysis
considerations for scientific evaluations.
- Demonstrated experience manipulating raw data and applying
advanced statistical practices to provide meaningful
information.
- Demonstrated experience with processing blood and urine samples
for testing.
- Working knowledge of medical and scientific terminology.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex, interdisciplinary
clinical research studies.
- Demonstrated experience in research protocol procedures,
including: study feasibility, study activation and IRB processes,
and qualification procedures.
- Proven leadership, strategic planning, and management skills
necessary to oversee all phases of research projects. Strong
problem solving and decision-making skills, and the ability to use
independent judgement and respond effectively to unexpected events
or changes with innovative solutions.
- Proven experience conducting subject recruitment in a clinical
setting, including obtaining informed consent and maintaining
confidentiality.
- Proven ability to organize, interpret, evaluate and present
research findings in a variety of formats, including scientific
manuscripts, grant proposals, oral presentations, posters, and
popular media.
- Demonstrated experience using SPSS Statistics and a working
knowledge of SQL.SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Salary Range: $62,324 - $100,220 AnnuallyThe University of
California, San Diego is required to provide a reasonable estimate
of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into
account the wide range of factors that are considered in making
compensation decisions including but not limited to experience,
skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and
certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is
not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the
top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based
on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary
range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The
budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably
expects to pay for this position defined as the Expected Pay Scale.
Placement within the Expected Pay Scale is determined by internal
equity, relevant qualifications, and collective bargaining
agreements (when applicable). Job offer is contingent on successful
engagement in the UC COVID-19 Vaccination program (fully vaccinated
with documented proof or approved exception/deferral).If
applicable, life-support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must
include hands-on practice and in-person skills assessment;
