Job Description:
Duties:
"The Trauma Registrar enters data in accordance with established
standard work to assure the quality and accuracy of the trauma
registry database. Identify cases, abstract and maintains the
trauma registry database according to existing department protocols
and regulatory requirements. This role assures accuracy and
confidentiality in the handling of all trauma registry related
matters. The registrar runs established reports as directed to
promote process improvements and optimum patient care as requested
by trauma leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Database Management:
1. Maintains and updates the trauma registry database.
2. Abstracts and enters data elements on all trauma patients.
3. Maintains data accuracy and participates in validation
process
4. Data entry is entered in a timely manner; concurrent entry with
completion within 60 days of admission.
5. Proficient knowledge of ICD-10 coding.
6. Retrieves demographic and financial information through the
electronic health record.
7. Adheres to inclusion criteria set forth by Alameda County, State
of California (CEMSIS) and American College of Surgeons
(Client)
8. Assures confidentiality of data and abides by HIPPA
regulations.
Registry Reports:
1. Responsible for running established reports when requested and
made ready for presentation (i.e. graphs) as needed by Trauma
Services.
2. Generates routine set of reports for monthly committee
meetings.
3. Creates gather reports at the basic level of report writing.
4. Suggests queries and reports when noticing trends in available
data.
Registry Reviews:
1. Participates in American College of Surgeons (Client)
verification site reviews.
2. Participates in data validation meetings, TQIP meetings when
requested, NTDB meetings when requested.
Organizational Responsibilities:
1. Attends staff meetings.
2. Participates in Unit and Hospital QI activities as
applicable.
Adheres to unit standards.
Notifies appropriate unit staff of opportunities for
improvement.
Participates in QI monitoring of self and data validation.
Participates in CQI activities as requested.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of the trauma quality improvement
plan.
4. Actively participates with other team members in maintaining the
QI plan for Trauma Services.
5. Follows NTDB, Client and department specific Standards,
Procedures, Protocols and Guidelines.
6. Reports information/data indicative of immediate patient risk to
Clinical Lead Registrar, TPM, TMD or Director of Trauma.
7. Initiates action to reduce risk as needed and as directed in
accordance with Hospital and unit standards.
Staff Development
1. Participates in staff development activities for unit, division,
and hospital personnel.
2. Shares knowledge, experience, and offers suggestions for
improvement
3. Participates in maintenance of reference information for use by
other staff.
4. Assumes responsibility for own development by participating in
in-services and continuing education.
5. Maintains professional certification, or registration as
required."
Education:
"Minimum Education: Associates Degree. College level anatomy and
physiology course completion. Successful completion of AAAM Coding
course or American Trauma Society Registrar course required.
Education Notes: American Trauma Society Registrar advanced course
completion preferred..
Minimum Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of experience with Medical
Records, ICD10 coding or clinical experience is required.
Abbreviated Injury Scoring (AIS) and Injury Severity Scoring (ISS)
experience is required.
Certification Required: Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries
(CSTR) preferred. Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification
preferred.
Pay Transparency This is the pay range that RightSourcing (a part
of Magnit) reasonably expects to pay someone for this position,
however, as a supplier your expected pay range may vary and/or
include certain benefits like: Stipends (for clinical TRAVELER
roles only), Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K [include any compulsory
benefits such as commissions, incentive bonuses, etc. if
applicable].

Skills:
"Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work with databases including data entry, data
abstraction, and data validation.
Working familiarity with Epic EMR and trauma registry data
bases,
Ability to utilize data from computer-based sources and paper-based
sources to generate reports.
Knowledge of Alameda County EMS-A trauma center designation
criteria.
Knowledge of Client verification requirements.
Knowledge of guest relations and hospital and unit resources.
Applies this knowledge to contribute to the smooth transfer of
information.
Knowledge of Structure Standards, Procedures, Protocols, Guidelines
as needed to perform job functions.
Working knowledge of unit Structure Standards.
Locates and uses appropriately the unit Standards on CHONET, Epic,
and/or MEDITECH.
Ability to use appropriately other reference manuals on unit: ICD
10 Manual, UBCHO Trauma One data entry instructions
Demonstrates organizational skills and appropriate prioritization
of assigned tasks unit activities.
Technical Knowledge: Ability to use a PC running Windows 7
Professional, EPIC, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word,
PowerPoint), Trauma Registry Database, and Web-based data warehouse
programs"

MBO)
