ABOUT GLOBAL CITIZEN YEAR
Global Citizen Year is launching the generation of leaders our
world needs now. Addressing our leadership crisis and overcoming
our shared, global challenges - from pandemics and populism, to
racial injustice and our climate crisis - requires a new generation
of leaders who are:
We're changing the who and how of our next generation leaders in
order to create a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable
future. Since 2010, Global Citizen Year has worked with over 1,200
exceptional young people shaping their values, perspectives and
skills in ways classroom learning alone cannot.
We offer two experiences - the Take Action Lab and the Academy -
both of which select talented students who represent diverse
backgrounds and equip them with the empathy, agency and global
network to drive impact today - and over the course of their
lives.
The Take Action Lab is designed to teach lifelong skills during an
immersive semester in South Africa. You will apprentice with
experienced human rights advocates advancing social justice and
learn how to tackle global issues from the ground up. Together with
a diverse cohort of like-minded peers, you'll gain skills and
perspectives to fuel a future of positive impact.
The Academy is a first-of-its-kind leadership experience (delivered
virtually) that equips students worldwide to find their purpose,
their people, and their power to make an impact. During the 12-week
semester, students hone their skills in our signature leadership
course, receive personalized mentorship, and attend intimate
discussions with today's most influential leaders such as Melinda
Gates, DeRay McKesson, and Jay Shetty. At just 5-10 hours per week
including optional volunteer opportunities, the Academy is designed
to add an enriching layer of purpose to school, travel, or work.
Students graduate from the Academy as part of an international
community of diverse changemakers and with the conviction to align
their lives with the world's needs.

WORKING AT GLOBAL CITIZEN YEAR
More than just coworkers, we're community members, travel buddies,
yoga partners, soccer rivals, and co-conspirators for making a real
impact. We work hard, play hard, and truly value creating the time
and space to connect with one another as humans.
"Global Citizen Year is truly a learning-organization led by
leaders who trust and empower the team to thrive. I have felt
valued, challenged and accomplished since joining, and much like
our amazing programming, the sky's the limit. Here everyone can be
their authentic self, and contribute their unique experiences and
background to shape the work that we do."
"When you arrive at Global Citizen Year, you will be welcomed with
(virtual) hugs instead of handshakes. Working at this organization
is unlike any job I've had. This is an organization that invests in
its people personally and professionally. You will be given the
tools, opportunity and support to thrive. I especially love the
flexibility to think creatively and have a positive impact in the
world."
"Honestly, what's not to love about Global Citizen Year? From the
kind whole hearted people, inclusive and equitable culture, and
unmatched diversity, to its work flexibility and phenomenal
benefits (unlimited PTO and paid international trips and sabbatical
after several years?!). Every day, I am reminded how privileged I
am to do this work, with these people, in this setting - a place
where authenticity triumphs and self-care prevails. For a busy mom
of active little kiddos, it means the world!"
