The City of Oakland is currently recruiting to fill 4 Part-Time
(PT) Facility Security Assistant vacancies within Oakland Parks,
Recreation, and Youth Development Department. The ideal candidate
will be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
The candidate is required to be observant and alert for the safety
of clients. It is essential for the candidate to be detail-oriented
to perform a variety of tasks and be mindful of details in client
services. The candidate will also need to be able to create event
set-up forms and be available for weekend and late-night
shifts.
Under immediate supervision in the Office of Parks and Recreation,
Facility Security Assistants provide support related to the use and
security of public buildings, recreational facilities, parks, and
other City properties in use by staff or patrons; perform a
combination of building security, answering phones, responding to
the public, accepting rental applications and modifying rental
agreements for extended hours, enforcing rules and regulations of
the facility, and moving and setting-up of furniture which may
include lifting and other light cleaning duties; and perform
related duties as assigned.
This is an entry-level classification whose incumbents provide
oversight and basic security to public buildings, recreational
facilities, parks, and other City properties in use by City staff
or patrons. Facility Security Assistants receive immediate
supervision from supervisory or management staff. May provide
oversight to subordinate staff.
This is an at-will position, exempt from the provisions of the City
of Oakland Civil Service Rules, per Charter Section 902.

Examples of Duties
Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to
the following minimum qualifications is acceptable:
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
One year of general work experience working with the public.
Experience performing building maintenance and light security
preferred.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE / OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Successful incumbents in this job are expected to operate an
automotive vehicle in the performance of the assigned duties. Due
to the nature of the assignment and the hours worked, public
transportation may not be a cost-effective method for traveling to
the various locations required. Individuals who are appointed to
this position will be required to maintain a valid California
Driver's License throughout the tenure of employment OR demonstrate
the ability to travel to various locations or transport equipment
in a timely manner as required in the performance of duties.
