REPORTS TO: Director of Expanded LearningPosition SummaryThe Summer Support/Substitute supports the Director of Expanded Learning as a utility player. People in this role will either work during the academic or enrichment shift. This support staff role operates as a substitute, field trip support, and/or operations support. This person's day-to-day experience will vary based on need. This role is perfect for a person interested in working multiple roles at summer camp.About Education for Change Public SchoolsFounded in 2005, Education for Change (EFC) is a charter management organization that was created as a partnership between Oakland Unified School District and the education reform community in order to leverage the flexibilities in charter law to facilitate greater innovation and to address the underperformance of our most vulnerable student populations. EFC is Oakland's largest charter operator, serving over 2,700 students in the Fruitvale and Elmhurst neighborhoods of East Oakland. Five of six of our schools were formerly OUSD schools that converted to EFC to leverage the flexibility and agility provided by charter law for greater outcomes for our students.Job ResponsibilitiesThe summer support teacher performs all duties of an academic or enrichment facilitator on a long-term assignment or day-to-day basisUnder the direction of the Director of Expanded Learning, in the absence of the classroom teacherThey provide instruction, encourage student progress, and manage the learning environmentThey demonstrate professional practices in teaching using the course of study and lesson plan provided by the regular classroom teacherOther duties as assigned.About YouExperience in and a desire to support students in improving their skills and interest in enrichment subjects.Experience working with elementary-age students required.Experience working with diverse families and communities is required.Commitment to work the entirety of the summer program.Effective verbal and written communication skills necessary to work withchildren, staff, and volunteers.Ability to spark curiosity, creativity, and confidence in students.Ability to manage up to 20 students in a safe, respectful environment.Open to gaining new knowledge and skills.Basic computer skills.Ability to bend, lift, and move up to 20 lbs.Requirements:Department of Justice clearance based on fingerprinting submission.--- Proof of TB test within the last four years.Work Schedule35 hours, 5 days/week.Work Hours: 8:30 am-1:00 pm OR 11:45 am-4:45 pmCox, LWL, Achieve Start and end date: 06/19-07/28Lazear Start and end date: 6/19-7/21EFC Core ValuesConnected- We continually work to build trusting relationships among students, families, staff, and the Oakland community at large.
