Job Description: Pathways Engagement Specialist -Covenant House California (CHC) is excited to announce the launch of its new Pathways Program in conjunction with the University of Chicago's Chapin Hall, Point Source Youth and City of Oakland. This is a 2-year project and blind study to examine youth ages 18-24 experiencing homelessness and transitions into housing stability in Alameda County. CHC is committed to meeting young people where they are, accepting them for who they are, and relentlessly engaging them, so that they can fulfill their dreams.POSITION SUMMARY: -
The Pathways Engagement Specialist will provide support, engagement opportunities and resources to all Pathways youth participants in line with the core values and policies of both Covenant House California and Chapin Hall's Direct Cash Transfer pilot initiative. The Pathways Engagement Specialist will work collaboratively with the Chapin Hall research staff and will be responsible for identifying and recruitment of potentially eligible youth. This will include building trust and rapport with all youth participants amid providing assistance to all youth toward the goal of retention and completion of this project. This person will have knowledge and/or experience working with youth development programs, utilizing a harm reduction framework, using trauma-informed practices and will value working with a multi-disciplinary team to create a safe inclusive environment for all. -Full-Time non-exempt 40/hours per weekPay rate: $22.50 per hour -ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Youth Engagement: -
--- Engage with youth and provide information about the Pathways project
--- Prioritize recruitment for those youth interested in participating in the Pathways project and orienting those youth randomly selected to participate in the Pathways project
--- Assist in developing and implementing strategies for maintaining contact with youth participants and continuing to provide engagement opportunities that are relevant, informative, fun and youth led.
--- Assist in providing a safe space for youth participants and Chapin Hall staff
--- Identify relevant resources for program participants and support young people in accessing those resources
--- Assist youth with housing navigation and landlord engagement2. Resource Development and Needs Assessments -
--- Responsible for researching and acquiring new community resources for youth including and not limited to housing resources
--- Responsible for developing workshops and materials through engagement with youth and their needs
--- Organize, facilitate, and supervise workshops that concentrate on Financial Coaching including budgeting, banking and credit education
--- Effectively communicate with youth, Chapin Hall staff and Covenant House support staff
3. Documentation:
--- Track program input, outputs and outcomes in partnership and collaboration in DCTP study and with research partners
--- Enter data appropriately on a weekly basis into ETO as assigned by supervisor in support of the data integrity plan at CHC.4. Service Integration:
--- Ensures ongoing communication, collaboration, and coordination with other CHC departments serving Pathways youth participants. -
--- Pathways Engagement Specialist will attend CHC program trainings, case review meetings, success plan meetings and other opportunities to collaborate as assigned by supervisor
--- Attend local YAB meetings and community forums as appropriate5. Team Projects:
--- Collaborate with the Director of Youth Engagement and program staff in developing and maintaining partnerships with mental health and substance use providers to connect youth to individual or group therapy and counseling resources for those that are interested.
--- Collaborate and network with various community partners and employers to create opportunities for employment and internships for youth seeking these resources.
--- Create, organize and lead workshops and community events around areas and resources identified by youth participants as a high priority. Ensure that these workshops are engaging, relevant and advertised appropriately and that there are no barriers to participation.
--- Support and attend Community Involvement events at the various sites and outings, leveraging relationships with youth participants and community members to increase attendance and creating community amongst the participants.6. Educational Programs: -
--- Assess the educational status and interests of youth seeking this resource and offer appropriate supports to youth on their individualized educational goals focusing on self-sufficiency and identify short-term steps towards reaching these goals.
--- Offer support to youth with exploring careers of interest, identifying vocational programs and enrolling and pursuing stackable vocational certifications.
--- Assist youth in the enrollment process in educational programs and/or college/vocational/technical programs for those youth seeking this resource and support7. All other duties as assigned by the Director of Youth Engagement
High School Diploma and/or equivalent preferred but not required. Bachelor's degree preferred but not required. -EXPERIENCE:
Must demonstrate a deep commitment to supporting young people experiencing homelessness and trafficking of all backgrounds. Lived expertise with issues directly impacting the young people we serve, such as a history of mental health support and service engagement, involvement in the child welfare system, probation system, or personal experiences of homelessness preferred. Must be a self-starter and team player with the ability to work with other staff members, young people, and the public. Must have turned 25 and/or exited out of CHC services for a minimum of 2 years.SKILLS:
Knowledge of adolescent development, community resources, and case management skills. Must have -
good organizational skills and the ability to communicate with young people, staff, employers and the
public. Communication with and about young people must reflect a strength based and trauma -
informed approach. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.TRANSPORTATION: -
Preferably has a valid CA Driver's License, reliable transportation and a good driving record, or the ability to navigate public transportation efficiently. Able to drive CHC vehicles, preferably. -WORKING CONDITIONS:
General business/office environment. Must be able to lift to 40 lbs. on occasion, bend, sit and stand -
for prolonged periods of time. Some weekend/holiday work may be required. Full-Time 40 hours per -
