This is a 100% Contract position for 3 years. This appointment may
be extended or converted to career status based on the needs of the
department. DESCRIPTION Academic Affairs is the largest of the vice
chancellor areas at UC San Diego. Led by the Executive Vice
Chancellor (EVC), it is comprised of seven academic schools, eight
undergraduate colleges, the Library and the Division of Extended
Studies. The executive vice chancellor area also includes the
Divisions of Undergraduate Education and Graduate Education and
Postdoctoral Affairs, Enrollment Management, several academic
support units, as well as units under the purview of the Vice
Chancellors for Student Affairs and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.
Academic Affairs annually manages expenditures in excess of $1.5B,
3M ASF of space and employs over 13,500 academic, staff and
research employees. The Office of the EVC provides leadership and
support to the units in Academic Affairs and is responsible for
policy and procedure development, communication and implementation,
resource administration, training and guidance, and professional
development for administrators, faculty, and staff. The EVC
Communications Specialist provides communications support to the
Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor under the supervision of
the Director of EVC Strategic Communications and Engagement. The
incumbent collaborates on the development and execution of
organizational communication and engagement strategy for the
Executive Vice Chancellor's Office, serves as a key point of
contact for EVC communication, and actively manages communications
projects through a variety of channels intended for diverse
audiences within the campus community. Communications deliverables
include, but are not limited to written, visual, digital, and
electronic communications and associated technical applications.
The Communications Specialist collaborates with the Director, EVC
Strategic Communications and Engagement to determine the best
communication methodologies to reach primarily internal audiences
which include academic employees, staff, students, and
administrators on critical campus initiatives led by Academic
Affairs and the Office of Executive Vice Chancellor, implements
these methodologies, and assesses their effectiveness; coordinates
and completes updates to the EVC's, and EVC-affiliated websites,
including updating content, ensuring accuracy and timeliness,
uploading content, images, and multimedia elements including photos
and videos; creates and manages a variety of content for Academic
Affairs and the Office of the EVC channels, ensuring the use of
inclusive language and messaging, and alignment with brand
protocols. Content may include stories, videos, newsletter
write-ups, and social media posts intended to keep audiences
informed of Academic Affairs and EVC activities, as well as content
from university-wide partners; schedules and coordinates the timely
production of print and electronic documents and notifications,
conferring with campus partners and/or outside vendors as needed.
As Communications Specialist, the person in this role will develop
EVC Communications that foster two-way communication between the
administration and campus stakeholders and will serve as a liaison
and facilitator to advance organizational goals, including
actively, deliberately, and thoughtfully infusing inclusivity and
diversity throughout EVC Communications. This person will also be
expected to promote a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion,
respect, and superior customer service to internal and external
constituents. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
