On-Call Research & Evaluation Assistant

SUMMARY This position is responsible for assisting with visitor
learning research and evaluation of museum exhibits and programs.
Responsibilities include: conducting interviews with visitors,
recording interviews and survey responses, soliciting written
consent for audio and video taping, conducting audio and video
taping, entering and coding various types of data, and actively
suggesting improvements to instruments and methods being developed.
Applicants who are bilingual in English and either Spanish or
Cantonese will be given priority. The position reports to the
Director of Visitor Research and Evaluation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conduct open-ended and semi-structured interviews with visitors
using questions provided by senior research staff. Conduct
interviews in English (and in either Spanish or Cantonese if
bilingual). Generate appropriate non-leading questions to further
clarify visitors responses. Solicit written consent from visitors
to be audio and video recorded. Audio and video record visitors
using multiple camera system, including troubleshooting as needed.
Store and manipulate audio and video files and documents according
to established protocols. Input visitor interview data into
spreadsheets and other electronic documents, and code/score data
using coding schemes developed by senior research staff. Assist in
the improvement of evaluation instruments and methods. Other duties
as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelors degree Excellent
listening and communication skills Accurate, rigorous, and
detail-oriented Ability to take and follow direction from senior
evaluation staff Interest in and/or experience with learning
research Available on weekends (at least one weekend day required)
and weeknights (up to one per week) Flexibility in terms of
availability, ranging from no work up to half time in any given
week. Ability to perform general office tasks including using a
computer terminal and office equipment, move from place to place,
lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Fluent and biliterate in English
and in either Spanish or Cantonese a plus. Ability to set up and
troubleshoot audio and video data collection systems a plus.
Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with FileMaker
Pro a plus Familiarity with Studiocode or other video-editing
software (iMovie, Final Cut Pro, etc.) a plus Interest in and/or
experience with holistic scoring and/or learning sciences a plus
