Vision Project Interpreter
Company: International Rescue Committee
Posted on: July 16, 2019
Save Job Overview: IRC is looking for a dedicated, compassionate
female interpreter to support the Vision Project. This position
will allow you the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of
young women's self-worth, independence, and, ultimately, their
future. The Vision Project empowers middle and high school refugee
girls by mentoring them in the skills and support they need to
envision in their futures as women in America. During the week of
August 5-9, approximately 12 girls will meet in a private workshop
at Oakland's City Hall with facilitators and mentors. During the
week, each girl identifies a career they want to envision
themselves in and draw out what this would look like: what they
would be doing, what they would wear. Then they bring it to life
through a photo shoot, scheduled between August 10-18th, matching
the girls' dreams- whether it's a forensic medical lab, an
architecture firm or the inside of an airplane. Each girl is taken
to their venue and surrounded by supportive womenvolunteers,
interpreters, professionals in that field, the program facilitators
and the photographer. Qualifications Major Responsibilities:
Providing interpretation for 1-3 participants in Arabic, Spanish,
Karen, Burmese, Dari/Farsi, Somali, French, Swahili, or Tigrynia.
Fluency or near-fluency in English and interpretation language(s).
Prior experience providing interpretive services strongly desired.
Experience working with girls and/or youth preferred. Comfortable
sitting on the floor with the girls, participating in the
activities, and staying engaged throughout the workshop. You work
well within a team and are patient, professional, and reliable. You
have integrity, compassion, and a positive attitude. You are
available 9:30am-3pm on August 5-9th during the workshop and photo
shoots August 10-18 (dates and times required will vary). Mandatory
training will occur on July 31, 9am - 1pm. IRC is an Equal
Opportunity Employer. IRC considers all applicants on the basis of
merit without regard to race, sex, color, national origin,
religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status,
disability or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
