Job Description:

Function: This consulting surveyor role applies technical skills and leadership for project planning and management, data evaluation, and publicly recorded documents and maps for public and private clientele.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepares Record of Survey Maps, Parcel Maps, Tract Maps, Corner Records, and Legal Descriptions to ensure that they comply with the State Professional Land Surveyors Act, the State Subdivision Map Act, and any applicable county or city ordinances
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the folder and file naming and organization, data numbering and describing, electronic field book preparation and other company-prescribed procedures and conventions
  • Interacts with clients as directed
  • Responsible for preparing proposals with clear and accurate scopes of work and estimates, and for performing the work adequately per the identified scope and within the defined budget and schedule
  • Responsible for presenting each proposed project to supervisor for approval before sending to client
  • Responsible for obtaining contracts from clients
  • Responsible for identifying changes in scope of work during a project and notifying Supervisor of same
  • Demonstrates a solid working knowledge of various types of survey projects and the various options for conducting projects efficiently and accurately
  • Assists with coordination and scheduling of field and office work
  • Performs research and calculations in preparation for field surveys
  • Processes and evaluates data provided by field surveys
  • Works with field surveyors, providing them with office support, guidance and, on occasion, with field support and/or training
  • Demonstrates familiarity with the various government processes and requirements for most survey-related projects or tasks
  • Prepares various submittals to public agencies related to surveying including submittals for certificates of compliance, tentative maps, voluntary mergers, other documents as directed
  • Prepares appraisal maps, highway maps, and right of way maps using Caltrans standards
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Caltrans Right of Way Manual and products/procedures within
  • Coordinates with other departments as needed for providing survey support
  • Assists in the implementation of new and alternate technologies as directed
  • Assists in internal training programs promoting professional surveying as deemed appropriate by the corporate advisory board
  • Performs special assignments or other duties as directed

    Minimum Education, Licensure, Or Certification Required
    • Valid California drivers license.
    • BS degree in Land Surveying (Geomatics or equivalent) or equivalent work experience
    • California Land Surveyors License (or equivalent experience)

      Minimum Experience Required
      • 8 years or 4 with BS degree in Land Surveying (Geomatics)

        Other Required Skills
        • Excellent oral and written communication skills
        • Must interact well with other staff, officials, clients, and the general public
