Department Overview

PG&E IT is a unified organization composed of various departments which collaborate effectively in order to deliver high quality technology solutions. The Business Technology - Electric Work/Asset Management department has responsibility for implementing new or enhancing existing business applications supporting Electric Operations various groups , as well as delivery of IT projects and solutions in support of their business goals and priorities.

Position Summary

The Principal Business Architect develops and maintains the business architecture for the enterprise; partners with business leads, analysts, technology and information architects to identify and map business processes for one or more lines of business; creates business process models, activity diagrams; provides functional expertise in supporting development of long-term application and information portfolios. The Business Architect will be instrumental in supporting project teams implementing new or enhancements to existing business applications supporting Electric Operations various groups: Service Planning & Design, Distribution, Transmission and Substation. These applications are aimed at improving both business and technical processes and data (within SAP, GIS, Documentum, CC&B, ProjectWise, AssetWise, and other vendor's software) to optimize work management, asset management and PSPS related activities.

Principal Business Architects have accountability and responsibility for focus areas that are of complex scope and with significant risk and high impact across multiple functions. They work autonomously. They address complex problems that span functions and may manage projects or initiatives that are high complexity and risk. They provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to non-architect technical staff of lesser experience. They generally work with Senior Management to influence strategies and decisions.

Responsibilities:

  • Architecture Practice: Shapes and follows the PG&E architecture practice. Helps drive continuous improvement of the practice. Leads communities within the practice; mentors other architects.
  • Area of Focus is Electric Operations with some focus on the Enterprise, depending upon position. Lines of Business architects operate under the overall guidance of the Enterprise architects.
  • Concept and Business Case Development: Introduces change to existing business technology capabilities for the architect's focus area. Develop strategies, roadmaps and business cases for the change while working with business and technology partners. Work with PMs and project team to develop Concept and Job Estimates in support of business cases.
  • Align with Enterprise BA"s governance and guidance and partner with Business Architect of other LoB community.
  • Future State Planning and Road mapping: Works with business and technology partners to plan for business technology change. This includes regulatory and financial planning along with alignment to technology service offerings. Develops various types of roadmaps to align across business and technology timelines.
  • Portfolio Capability Management: Works with business and technology partners to manage the business technology capabilities of the portfolio for the architect's focus area. Strives to provide the necessary business capabilities while managing cost and risk to the enterprise.
  • Standards and Governance: Develops artifacts that document current or future business technology capabilities for reuse. Participates in the governance processes as defined by the PG&E architecture practice. Qualifications:

    Minimum:
    • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or related degree or equivalent experience
    • 10 years of experience in business analysis and process modeling functions with experience leading cross-functional teams for at least 3 years
    • Hands-on experience with business requirements gathering/analysis
    • Proven experience in structured systems analysis
    • Experience with business process modeling tools and processes
    • Experience providing direction to one or more Business Architects and/or Business Analysts Desired:
      • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration
      • Experience in Waterfall, Agile and Scrum methodology
      • Experience working in a PMO environment as Project Lead or Project Manager for medium to complex projects
      • Ability to lead and influence strategic planning and decision-making working with senior management
      • Experience working with AWS, GIS, SAP, Salesforce technology
      • Experience working with Electric Operation asset such as poles and lines
      • Experience working with Electric Transmission and Substation asset
      • Experience working with cloud technology: AWS, AZURE, One Cloud
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interacting with all levels of the organization with ease. This includes but is not limited to their team, peer network, and senior executives
      • Ability to build and maintain strong and effective working relationships across departments
      • Working knowledge of PG&E's Enterprise IT infrastructure, Cyber Security, Cloud and other technology domain
      • Experience with Business Process and Requirements development and authoring stories for technical resource consumption
      • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
      • Ability to push back and challenge leadership requests that don't make sense for the broader whole
