SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE:
The Business Unit Manager reports to the Regional Manager (RM) and
is responsible for the direction, strategy, planning and execution
of the organization s operations and business development
activities. Maintains and improves profitability by managing
controllable expenses, efficient operations and cost-effective
business practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with the Executive management
team to develop operating goals, plans and overarching strategies
for growth, earnings, employee safety and risk management.
Implement and monitor operational KPIs for the business unit,
adjust measurement methods, goals, and metrics as necessary to meet
changing company needs. Responsible for senior-level negotiations
with customers to ensure business unit meets the revenue growth
goals of the organization. Drive the business unit in meeting the
revenue growth goals of the organization. Work closely with the
Human Resources Department to ensure consistent and fair
application of the organization s policies and to ensure that
staffing strategies meet the company s needs. Direct and manage
capital expenditures to maximize return on investment Maintain all
company property and equipment and ensure they are in good
standings. Report as required to the President, Regional and VP on
operational performance, forecasts, changing market conditions and
up/downside risks, to execute to their direction for the company.
Ensure revenue and margin targets are met monthly. Responsible for
pricing and pricing related activities, such as job costing and job
level data collection. Analyze variable costs daily, work with
supervisors to determine required staffing levels and support
division labor re-allocation across the organization as required.
Carry out management responsibilities including interviewing,
hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing
work; evaluating and appraising individual performance; rewarding
and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving
problems. Develops and maintains cost and work saving measures and
work procedures through directing operations according to company
standards for quality and product output. Complies with all EPA and
OSHA regulations as well as internal policies with respect to
safety. Communicates on a regular basis through meetings, emails
and text threads. Directs operations to achieve schedule needs and
meet customer deadlines. Manages operating budgets and ensures that
expenses are incurred at acceptable levels and be prepared to
explain any variance along with appropriate corrective actions.

Ensures employee conformance to establish in sharing best practices
and proper training of staff across all divisions. Makes
recommendations to senior management on long range labor and
equipment needs. Enforce corrective action and follows-up on
strategic objectives to successful completion in appropriate
process areas. Develops, coaches and mentors subordinate staff
Provide effective leadership and act in a manner that maintains a
positive and productive work environment with customers, clients,
co-workers and supervisors. Conducts performance evaluations;
recommends salary adjustments; rewards employees or takes
disciplinary action, as necessary; addresses employee relations
complaints and resolves issues. Responsible for timely reporting as
required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES: Ability to understand
and analyze P&L. Proven track record of leading a large
business unit organization at the general management level.
Established relationships with industry-relevant customer base and
familiarity of their capabilities, pricing strategies, and
negotiation tactics. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job
successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential
duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are
representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
Strong operational experience Prior experience leading a multi-site
operation. Effective verbal and written communication skills
required Ability to communicate with other team members, visitors
and customers in an effective, pleasant, courteous and tactful
manner. Computer experience with Windows, Microsoft Excel, Word,
Power Point and Outlook. English language proficiency, to include
verbal and written communication.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
Relevant Bachelor s Degree or equivalent work experience of direct
involvement in warehousing, transportation, and/or logistics
fields.
