The Electrician is the journey level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks associated with electrical repair, and installation work. Electricians perform electrical service, maintenance and installation work on traffic signals, street lights, building electrical systems, alarms, communication equipment and other equipment; demonstrates a full understanding of all applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; Examples of Duties: Performs highly skilled electrical and electronic installation, repair, service and maintenance work on a variety of electrical installations, systems, traffic signals, pumps and other equipment Repairs, maintains and installs street lighting poles on all city-owned street lights; inspects and repairs street lights and control circuits and park lights and control systems. Assist in planning and scheduling preventative maintenance programs; develops and implements emergency situation plans; Inspects switch gear, transformers, relays, motors, pumps, generators and a variety of other types of electro-mechanical equipment for proper operation and makes adjustments, repairs or replacements as directed; Programs, calibrates, repairs, and maintains traffic signal controllers, lights, traffic detection and other equipment. Performs troubleshooting, diagnostic, programming work; reads and interprets electrical and mechanical drawings and specifications. Requirements: A high school diploma and two (2) years of journey level experience in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical equipment, electrical control devices or solid state electronic equipment. Possession of a valid California class C driver's license.
